My kids went here from kindergarten through 5th grade. It started out good but has extremely gone down hill. We moved to another town because I couldn't get them choice enrolled at another school. They started out with two classes in each grade and have since gone to one big class of almost 40 in each grade because the enrollment is so low. The principle hires the cheapest teachers that are inexperienced. Each year there are almost all new teachers. The principle has no control of the school and has driven what used to be a good school into the dirt. My son learned so little last year in 3rd grade because he even had a new teacher mid school year who knew nothing and had zero control! Since we have moved both kids they are thriving and their test scores are rapidly climbing! I urge you as parents not to put your children here.

This school was a major disappointment and turned out to be the biggest nightmare ever! Principal is egotistical, self absorbed and thinks she is better than the general populus. Teachers will forge student records without regard. This principal took it upon herself to spew the most awful words to a child. It was unbelievable! I beg EVERY parent to choose ANY school but this one.

The Principal has no control and does not inforce Rules. I am deeply sadden that the school has gone down hill in the last few years. I have watched a number of good families and teachers leave because of the Principals leadership style and lack of follow through. I gave the principal leadership 1 star only because I am unable to give it less. For the Parent involvement I see a large number of them leaving this school or looking at other options.

GGE is a wonderful school. I have two children attending Green Gables Elementary and they are haveing a great time and excelling academically. The principal does a great job leading this school. She has surrounded herself with a team that cares for these kids and pushes them to do well in all aspects of school. The test scores were up in 2010.

Green Gables is a small school with a mixed socio-economic population. Because they are small, they often don't get the funding of the larger schools. However, they have very active community involvement and the teachers are very supportive of the students.

The teachers are making a great effort to engage children at all levels. My son is in 1st grade and is at the top of his class. His teacher consistently makes an effort to make sure he stays challenged. The issue I have with the school is the overall leadership, which in my opinion is below average. If it wasn't for the great teaching staff I would rate this school lower.

Good community atmosphere. Rating was high when my kids entered, many kids choiced in. Enrollment seems to be changing, and test performances are decreasing. My kids (2) are very happy in the small school atmosphere. However, I have high performing kids and I now worry resources will all be spent on the underachievers.

Outdated building, enrollment increasing, academic quality decreasing. Very few extra curricular choices.

I love this school. My daughter loves it too. She is only in first grade and is doing very well.

Green Gables has a small school atmosphere. The class size is comparable and not too large (less than 30 per class). The teachers genuinely care for the children and weekly correspondence is continual and very informative. They are constantly offering opportunities for the kids to express themselves and be acknowledged on a individual basis. Parent involvement is strongly encouraged and welcome on a monthly basis.

Profile Completeness

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
