I am currently a student there and I can say it is highly focused on sports but still a good school. I moved away a few weeks into my freshman year and started school in wheat ridge which I thought was horrible the first class I went to the I got yelled at because the teacher did not want more students. After that I was sent to Hugo where I was not treated the best as well so when I went back to Limon I was so happy. Its a great school with a heavy focus on sports but it the towns way of getting every body involved in the school
my daughters both go there and i think it is a great school , jess is a juniour and becca is a freshmen
Limon is a great school. My daughter graduated from Limon and soon will be graduation from college with excellent grades. My son is a senior at Limon now. Both my children were involved in sports. I strongly feel that being involved with sports makes better kids. It makes them keep up with their grades and studies so that they can participate in sports. Sports teaches discipline and teamwork which is a main key in todays success. Kids involved in sports are more likely to keep free of drugs and other pressures so common with todays youth. Most every parent is very involved with their childs activities. That is what makes Limon unique. Keep your child busy, instill goals and strong values- they wont have time to find trouble!
Limon Junior/Senior High School is far more concerned with sports programs than with academic achievement. There is one AP course, which no student has ever passed the exam after taking this course. There are not accelerated opportunities for children in middle school and very limited opportunities in high school. The opportunities that do exist have significant hurdles to be overcome. Staff is cowed by current superintendent/ principal. If there were viable options available I would sent my child elsewhere. My child will have basic reading and writing, limited science and social studies, and minimal math when graduation greets the end of our stint in Limon. If you want to have an 18 year old has been athlete then Limon is the place for you; other wise, look elsewhere for your child's education.
I wouldn't send my kids there until the superintendent is gone and less emphasis is placed on sports.
I was a student there when I was in seventh, eighth, and nineth grade. I was humiliated and destroyed by the staff and students there. My family is half black half white and we were put down and told that my sisters and I shouldn't try to be something other a waitress or a maid of some sort. Well after that my mother decided that was enough and took us to Mount Vernon, Wasington where the schools have much more to offer their students. But I do have one thing good to say about Limon the art teacher was the best art teacher I ever had.
