Principal, dean of students and homeroom staff are complacent and seem to believe they are a protected class of people who are not obligated to answer questions or have any accountability for their performance. My 2e ADD student's self esteem and interest in learning was damaged by this staff. Requests to opt out were not honored, and there was no partnering.

Grateful to: Staff member

We miss you Mr. Hill! Mr. Hill is the most caring, engaged staff member at Runyon.

Teacher effectiveness: Somewhat effective
October 01, 2015
The homeroom teachers at this school are for the most part seasoned, apathetic and average.

Amount of homework: Too much
October 01, 2015
Students are assigned busywork, and the grades are not consistent in how much homework is given; e.g. if third graders should have 30 minutes of homework, or more than another grade, that does not happen. Second grade, and even first might have more depending on the class. There are no clear standards for how each grade and class should look and how much homework will be given.

Develops grit: Strongly disagree
October 01, 2015
Perseverance, grit, determination cannot be achieved when a student is rewarded with fruit snacks, stickers, etc. for being "good" being quiet, and doing their work. There's no instrinsic motivation being developed or valued to develop persistence.

Develops respect: Disagree
October 01, 2015
Students are not respected. I think specials teachers do a better job of this than the rest of the staff.

Develops empathy: Strongly disagree
October 01, 2015
The children are given no empathy and therefore can't develop it. Their test scores have fallen despite their test focus and failure to show compassion, caring and empathy.

Develops honesty: Disagree
October 01, 2015
Children are rewarded for performing academically, for good behavior with corn syrup treats. Children are regularly treated unfairly by staff and it is an accepted practice.

My son started Runyon in January 2013, he was behind with reading and had low self confidence due to past schooling experiences. Within 2 months they had identified that he needed support and by the time he finished the year he had made enough progress to advance to the next grade which was a concern in March. I now have a son who is reading independently, which was not heard of, he enjoys school and he tries hard every day. This is thanks to the wonderful staff at Runyon and I am so lucky that my son attends.

My daughter just started kindergarten; kids are made to feel welcome before they start school and after. Great start to the year so far!

Runyon is an excellent school. Both of my daughters attended k-5th grade at Runyon. The teachers are great and parents are empowered and included. Each year I opt my children out of the CSAP tests, now named TCAP. The administrators and teachers are very supportive of our decision and parental rights when it comes to protecting the interest of our children. Parents are made partners and children the priority!

The teachers and princpal have great big hearts for kids. You couldn't ask for nicer people. My daughter has been there for four years. She never wants to leave. I couldn't be more greatful. Thank you Mrs. Morrone.

Runyon is a great school. The staff are all wonderful -- very personable and helpful. Great parent involvement. This was our first year and I was very happy with the education my children received.
