As far as I understand it "No Child Left Behind" program and "CSAP" tests are mandated programs, federally and state-wide. Part of our funding for our school is then based on our student performance data. I don't think that overall this was by the choice of our teachers, and I think it has made their jobs a lot more stressful and difficult. But this is just my opinion based off of my understanding! I welcome feedback.

My child is in first grade and I have found that the kindergarten teacher , the kindergarten enrichment teacher, the first grade teacher, and interventionist are unparalleled in patience and care. These teachers coupled with the preschool teachers in town are Nederland's greatest assets.

Nederland Elementary was a great school. I have heard so many wonderful stories of "how it used to be." Unfortunately, in recent years, the school is losing families who have decided that academically and socially the school just doesn't cut it for their kids. There is definitely a focus on the CSAP(students spend months practicing for CSAP's instead of really diving deep into subject matter). My kids were bored and frustrated with the environment of sitting on the sidelines while teachers worked tirelessly to bring up the below-average learners to an average level ("no child left behind"). It's great to have a local neighborhood school where everyone knows eachother, although this can be a somewhat transient area. While there is parental involvement in the school for parties and classroom help, it didn't appear that parents seemed very interested in academics.

Nederland Elementary is the best school! My son who is now attending University of Denver, got his start there. It is such a warm and welcoming environment from the front desk to the playgrounds. As a substitute teacher and room parent, I can attest to the quality education here, with support and encouragement at every level. And because everyone knows everyone (or at least everyone with kids), I always thought it felt like a private school. It is a lucky child who gets to be a part of the NES circle.

So often we hear of parents wanting a 'neighborhood school', with the associated connotations of easy access, close neighborhood relationships, and close contact with the school. I would term Nederland Elementary School (NES) as that and much more. It is what I consider a 'community' school, inasmuch as the entire community is invested in the support and success of the kids at the school. There is a level of connection and caring for the kids I have not seen in many other schools. Academically, the school has taken seriously the Colorado standardized tests mandated by the Legislature, and teachers are all about the business of honing skills in reading, math, and overall analysis. There is significant parental (and Grandparent) involvement in the school.

Amazing teachers that encourage our kids to work hard and strive for excellence. I have been seeing my children through this great school for the past 7 years and have been more impressed with the teacher's abilities as the time has gone by. A+
