I've been really happy with Legacy Point Elementary. I have two kids in the school in 2nd and 4th grades. I really like the Leader in Me program. I've seen both of my kids become leaders and focus more and more each year on their learning. I've had great experiences with all of their teachers over the years and believe that my kids really respond well to what they are learning.

If your student is in need of special services, it is hit or miss if they will receive them. They do not understanding learning disabilities nor do they employ methods to help those struggling students. I was told that I just need to lower my standards. There are some really great teachers, but there are also some bad ones as well. Six weeks into the school year, one of the teachers told me she did not realize that my child was not doing her work. I have also been told that my child was choosing not to focus on class work even though ADHD was the issue. The turnover in staff is concerning as we have gone through multiple principals within the last few years.

Supports LD students: Strongly disagree

Your child will not get the services needed. They do not understand learning disabilities and do not use techniques that are proven to help those with diagnosed disabilities. They use programs that are for all students but not specific to any LD.

Handles bullying effectively: Strongly disagree

Laughable. They even sent out notices letting parents know that we were all crying "bullying" too much and that there were simply "mean kids" at the school.

Supports LD students: Strongly disagree

Absolutely not. Unless your child fits into a few select boxes they will no be accommodated.

Effective school leaders: Strongly disagree

Four admin teams in four years. This current year is the worst group yet!

Teacher effectiveness: Neutral

This school has a mixture of amazing and terrible teachers. It's the luck of the draw which one your child will receive.

LPE is on it's fourth administration team in four years. As you can imagine that causes its share of issues amount the staff and students. However this years administrator team seems to be the worst yet. There is almost zero communication from the administration on anything relevant. Bullying is prevalent and yet widely excepted by the school. The admin team even had the audacity to send out a statement to parents letting us know that we had all been mistaken and that most of the bullying reported this year was just "kids being mean" which is not the same thing.... The school in general is all about tests. They teach the to test and your child will spend far too many hours taking test which lets face it are no true measure of knowledge. There are some amazing teachers at this school, however I do not see many of them sticking around much longer if the current admin team is there to stay.

LPE is an outstanding school. Students are put first. They are educated by passionate teachers and staff members. They have the most amazing special education team and support staff. The principal and vice principal are knowledgable and encourage open communication and community. LPE is truly a family and I could not be more proud to be a part of the team.

- a
I believe LPE is an acceptable choice for your average child who does not require any additional services. However, for children who do require special services you need to look elsewhere. Their knowledge of learning disorders is minimal and the staff is resistant to open communication. The school also seems to have a high turnover rate with principals and teachers.
