As a parent of a freshman in the pre-IB/ pre AP program, I am pleased with the quality of rigor and opportunity that the school offers. Reading the classics such as Romeo and Juliet, The Good Earth, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, The Grapes of Wrath, Night, present a great repertoire for discussion, debate, Socratic Seminar- beyond the textbook. Academic competitions at the University of Denver, Colorado State University-Pueblo, and the University of Colorado at Denver, allow students to compete against the best in the state in history, world affairs, research, performance, web design. With 22 sports to choose from, plus numerous clubs such as Speech and Debate, Chess, Key Club, Mock Trial Team, Knowledge Bowl, Science Club, Fishing Club, our family has been pleased with both the curricular and extra curricular offerings.
My granddaughter attends Pueblo West and is doing great! She is in the band and loves it. I enjoyed watching a football game. Go Cyclones!
From academics to extracurricular activities, this school sets the standard for the entire nation.
This school shouldn't even be close to being rated a '7' its horrible if I was a parent I would never send my child here. I went here for about 6 months and it was the WORST 6 months of my life the teachers were rude and worried more about their rules then actually teaching us anything and the students there were all bullies. They claim they have no bullying problems if I were them I would check again...
They need to learn that the students learning is more important that their shirt being tucked in.
High rating, state football/softball champs, and its only been around 10 years.....GREAT SCHOOL. They are not as strict as they once were when it comes to the dress code
This school gives 110% of its energy into its students and faculty. I have been here for three years and im very excited to graduate this year
Yes, its strict but if you actually come to school to learn it is a great school.
It is the best high school in all of CO. Sure we dont have lockers or extra stuff like a pool, auditorium, or tennis courts but we are only 10 years old. We just recently took 4A state champions for football! We just received a high rating in academics and we just had a student take 2nd at state in speech and debate. We are a wonderfull school! I couldn't love it less.
I agree with a lot of these students. My poor kid came home every night with an achey back, and nothing to show for it. My daughter is a very level-headed young woman...but I sincerely had to PUSH her to make the best of this horrible experience. I will never be able to forgive myself for putting my child in that horrible setting.
The school's lack of lockers make it kind of a hassle, but its not that big of a deal. The dress code is incredibly strict, but not everybody sees that as a bad thing. The majority of the teachers are pretty good. But as a newer school, they're still finding the best they can. The focus seems to be on physical sports. They don't really seem to care about things like Speech and Debate as much as they care about football and wrestling.
As a former student of PWHS...It needs to be said that I consider myself lucky for actually learning anything! Between making sure my shirt was tucked in and my shoes were tied; I found it hard to even concentrate on my school work. This school was a joke. No body knew how to run a school based on academic acheivement. I'm so thankful I'm out of there.
They do prioritize behavioral issues and yet have huge problems with it.
The staff is young and getting better each year. They do have strict rules and there is nothing wrong with that.
This school is horrible! they have more concern about the kids behaving then the kids actually learning. The teachers have a lot to learn not the students!
The school is more concerned with the dress code than the conduct code. Also, why can't our kids have lockers? My daughters books are heavier than she is.
For being so strict this school has many behavioral problems. The staff is more concerned about the student tucking in their shirts than doing the work.
