We have two children and McClelland and will have three next year. One of the things we appreciate most about McClelland is that it is a community, not just a school. Your child is known by all teachers in all grades and they are able to interact with children at different age levels; sometimes being a mentor to a younger student and sometimes learning from older students. McClelland also strives to develop the whole child, a child who is curious and interested in learning, not just able to regurgitate facts for a test. They know every child's strengths and weaknesses and they help children become well rounded people, who contribute to society. It is a wonderful place!

McClelland is such an amazing place! I feel so fortunate that my 2 children have been able to attend McClelland since preschool. The school is warm, safe and welcoming. The teachers teach more than just academics, they teach character, positivity, and work ethic. Classrooms are kept at 15 students, which means the teachers KNOW my kids, what they are capable of and what success is for them. Students learn by doing! They are experimenting, doing their own research, using manipulatives, building... and getting a world class education as a result. There is no way your child, gifted, average or otherwise can slip through cracks at McClelland. The teachers ensure that every child is receiving the support they need. If you are looking for a wonderful school in the Pueblo area, you won't find better than McClelland. My family highly recommends them!

McClelland isn't just a school, it is a community. It is a community of administrators, educators, parents, and students. My family has been a part of this amazing community for 3 years, now. What I appreicate most is the way that each child is seen as an individual. In the small classroom settings, each child can be challenged, and no child has to work at getting attention from their teachers. On the contrary, their teachers not only know their learning style, but also their personality. The parents are welcome and encouraged to visit at any time during the day. Parents are not seen as an interruption, but as an essential part to the learning process. The best compliment to McClelland comes from both of my boys (Pre-K and 3rd grade) who look forward to the end of summer, so they can return to school!

McClelland is a unique learning environment. My children started school at McClelland in 3rd and 5th grades with children who had been going to school there since they were 4. The entire community welcomed them and 3 1/2 years later we couldn't be happier. The education they are receiving is not only excellent, it is unique. The small class sizes mean that the teachers truly know your child as the individual s/he is and they celebrate and challenge that. And that's not just in the "basics." They are both in Middle School now and the music, art, and PE programs are amazing. McClelland School teaches the whole child. You will NEVER see a class being taught to a test. The teachers are constantly looking for new and different ways to teach and ways to get the kids involved in their education and their community. Can't say enough good things.

We have had our daughter at McClelland for 2 years now and we really enjoy it. Greatest teachers ,Staff ,students and parents. Their curriculum and environment is something you won't find anywhere else and we are happy to be apart of it . Also every student wants to be here and they hate to miss a day. My daughter cries when sick and we make her miss a day.

We've been at McClelland more years than I care to count. We've seen many changes and moves forward. We love the school, teachers, curriculum, environment, and staff. It's a community that I cannot put into words, you'll have to experience it for yourself, and I hope you will.

We have been at McClelland for 9 years now, and we are very happy. The teachers are phenomenal and care so much about our kids. We are lucky enough to have music, art, gym and Spanish when so many other schools are losing these very important classes. Not only do our children receive a wonderful education at McClelland, we also know that they are in a safe and nurturing environment.

In short, two reasons this school is great. #1 Academics are challenging and prep students for success in high school. #2 Students are taught to work cooperatively with their peers and adults. In more detail: When students are testing 2 to 4 grade levels higher than their grade, it is fantastic. And the students we send to high school are on honor roll or high honor roll. My daughter, who just graduated 8th grade, started high school in a sophomore math class, honors English, and honors history. My other daughter, a 7th grader, is excelling in math, English and science. To top it all off, the students all get along. There is no bullying and children will work on compromise to resolve disagreement rather than arguing. During these time, teachers generally only have to monitor the situation rather than get involved. No doubt the best all around school in Pueblo.

McClelland is a special place that welcomes diversity and whose staff and faculty work to earn the respect of the community. It's a warm, safe and nurturing environment for students who are given the freedom to 'think and do' in order to learn. Maybe most important, McClelland produces kids who are thoughtful and nice!

Fantastic school, fantastic value. Our child has been at McClelland for 7 years, and she still loves it so much, that she gets sad about summer vacation! Great and caring teachers. Excellent and creative curriculum. Terrific art, PE, music, drama, and language enrichment. The chance to have a preschool-8th grade experience in a warm, safe, exciting, and challenging environment is so rare these days. The older graduates of McClelland I know have done exceptionally well in academics, sports, and life after moving on to high school and college. We feel very lucky to have a place in Pueblo where our child is happy, safe, challenged, and energized about learning. Friends of ours in other cities cannot believe the amazing value of McClelland, as they pay 3-5 times as much for similar quality and worse student-teacher ratios! If you are moving to Pueblo with kids, you cannot go wrong with McClelland.

Our experience with McClelland School has only been in their Early Childhood program, but I have to say I'm very impressed. There's an excellent child-to-teacher ratio, the field trips are interesting and enriching and the atmosphere is warm and secure. Play and art are encouraged and lots of time is devoted to each, which I think is very appropriate for his age. At the same time he's learning phonics, counting, math and other subjects that should prepare him well for kindergarten. All in all a pricey, yet excellent school.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

More from this school
  • McClelland is Pueblo's only private, independent school. We are accredited by the National Association of Independent Schools as well as the Association of Colorado Independent Schools. McClelland students are a remarkable group . They are confident and yet humble learners and regularly go on to leadership positions in high school, college and beyond. Our alumni regularly tell us that the foundation they developed here allowed them to confidently move forward in their academic careers. McClelland believes in educating the whole child and works hard to not only teach core academic subjects, but to acknowledge the importance of art, music, athletics, theater and citizenship. Our students are testing on average 2-4 grade levels above placement on the TerraNova standardized tests.
