Dolores Huerta is an outstanding high school in Pueblo, CO. It offers early college classes from a local community college, as well as challenging academics within the high school. However, This school lacks in Principle leadership, as well as lacking in discipline. Students seem to do what they wish, since they know that there wont be any major consequences. This is what holds Dolores Huerta from a 5 star rating.
It is believed that Dolores Huerta Preparatory High is the most outstanding high school in the state of Colorado. Dolores Huerta is based on sending their students to college during high school. In the school year of 2008-2009, there has been 124 students attending college. I am very impressed with the performance of the school.
My daughter attended DHPH four years. The attraction is a high school diploma and free AA degree from PCC. There are significant drawbacks. The school was very disorganized. It had three principals and lost many outstanding teachers in four years. My daughter traveled between campuses, sometimes several times during the day. Coordination of her schedule was poorly done. She was double scheduled several times so she missed class sessions. There was no continuity in the curriculum. She took a hodgepodge of college classes based on availability. Most high school students are better served by having a class five times per week rather than the college system of three sessions per week with more independent study. Your teenager will attend college classes with much older students who may be interested in them socially.
