INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Red Feather is a small school dedicated to it's students and the community. It is located in beautiful northern Colorado lakes region and the festivals they put on to benefit the school and the community draw people from miles away and truly bring the idea of family to the fore because that is what Red Feather is, a family dedicated to their children and working hard to do the best for them through this beautiful school where everyone is welcome and and made to feel like this is where they belong. It is one of the best schools in the world

Red Feather is one of our wonderful mountain schools. When I first went to teach special education there, I thought I was going camping in the forest because of the pine forest. The teachers there now are outstanding. They have taken a school that was struggling academically due to high needs students and turned it into a school that is excelling academically.

What a beautiful setting for an elementary school. I am sure that with the small classes the children have an exceptional learning facility. I have a friend that has a little girl attending pre-school at Red Feather. A 2 hour bus trip for any young child to attend pre-school or elementary school is unheard of.

The Red Feather School has a very dedicated staff of teachers and the students attending this school are getting the best possible education possible. this school is the center of the community and provides a great deal of support when people are seking property to purchase within the area. this school is neat, clean and well supported by people living in the area. The student-teacher ratio is great and enhances the students' learning. This is why I believe the Red Feather lake School is great!

It's the last surviving mountain school in the area. Children from this area will need to be bused up to 2 hours away if this school closes. The student to teacher ratio here is fantastic. If this school closes the school the kids will be bused to will have to put up extra traliers to accomodate them .

Red Feather Elementary is a small rural school. We have grades Pre-school through 5th with two grades per classroom. The students are allowed much more one on one attention from their teachers than would ever be possible in a metro school and this greatly improves the the quality of education for the kids. The students of all age groups are able to co-mingle through out the day easily helping to form a strong sense of community. All of this nestled in the mountains of Colorado. This is what we were looking for when when we found Red Feather Lakes Elementary and a community to raise our small children in. God bless RFLE!.

Red Feather Lakes Elementary School is truely a unique little school in an awesome setting of a small mountain community. Kids from Preschool through 5th grade are served at this school. It's like a close knit family where the teachers know all the kids and the kids know all the teachers. This school is vital to the kids in this remote mountain community and also to Red Feather Lakes Village itself. The staff is wonderful. They go above and beyond to help the students achieve to their fullest. We need all the help we can get to keep this school from being closed.

The Red Feather School is in a beautiful mountain setting, a perfect place for learning, with small class sizes, the benefit of a very good teacher-student ration, excellent student scores, opportunities for hands-on learning and has committed volunteers and a great PTA group. The community loves this little school and our businesses, our library, and our community members all want to see this school keep its present location and not become consolidated. This school is a wonderful example of keeping the local support and services in a rural area. Please help save the Red Feather Lakes Elementary School!

Red Feather Lakes Elementary School is a unique mountain school that cannot suffer the effects of closure. Hard working parents are already burdened and are essential to keeping our mountain communities thrieving. Our kids at Red Feather Lakes need to prosper just as any other child in a Urban environment. We should all strive to keep quality education in our mountain communities and not shut them down, as it would have a devastating affect for the mountain community at Red Feather Lakes. It allows for one on one tutoring. Everyone knows everyone and their families. My son's greatest educational growth took place in this school. He wrote themes when he was disciplined and learned a lesson in reality when they watched the Columbia disaster on TV. He learned how to use a computer and thoroughly enjoyed the winter sledding races and tubing in the winter and the baseball games in warmer weather.

This is a tiny school with under 45 students where the community comes out to support their activities and cares/knows about the students as individuals. Volunteers come in to help with the reading and math programs, catalog and keep shelves organized in the library, man the office since the school district took away our secretary, as well as serve the hot lunch, to list just a few volunteer positions. Local organizations and businesses help out when there is a special need, such as hot lunch once or twice a month, supplies for students who would go without, building benches and tables for their nature walk. The county school board is trying to close this little school for economic reasons alone, even though we in this area pay millions into the district that is not necessarily returned in proportion for our school. People moved their young families to this mountain area for a reason and that is because this school really cares about its students and how they are prepared for the next phase in their education.

I'm a grandmother of a 10 year old girl who goes to this school. She has come from a much larger school where she did not receive the one on one like she does now. She (Baylee) loves going to school for the first time of her school years, she loves the outings, activities, her teacher and most of all she is not bored, she feels she is learning. Isn't learning in our schools the reason why we send them? So please do not take this school away. Thank You, Lori Moore

I am a volunteer at this school and I love everything about it. The children are fun and super smart! They have the greatest and most caring teachers. They like to decorate cookies at school parties. The children are very loving and supportive to each other like a very close family. It is the most beautiful little school in the entire nation. It sits in a forest high in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. They have their own local moose that hangs out at the local pond outside the school grounds. The students love to go to school and play outside on their beautiful campus. They love to watch the local wildlife and hike on the nature trail through their forest campus. If I was to be a kid again this would be the perfect school for me!

This is a wonderful little school with high student achievement. If the school closes, young people will no longer be able to live in the community. This will affect the community by turning it into a place for retired and older people, so saving the school saves the community. I'm a grandparent of one of the students.

Red Feather Lakes Elementary is one of the last remaining small community schools which has the feel (and all the advantages) of a one-room school house. It houses PK-5th grade and employs the most compassionate, talented teachers in the school district. They individualize instruction and teach to the whole child while focusing on each child's strengths and personal development. Within the school there is fostered such a sense of community that supervision is never an issue - the older kids consider it a responsibility to take care of the younger ones. This is such a rare institution in today's world that I feel it warrants recognition!

The Red Feather Lakes elementary school is such an important part of community. First, it's high standards for education and individual attention is paramount for our children to get a good start in school. Secondly, it brings this community together and binds us with a sense of purpose and hope for the future. The future of other children getting the same great education. We are fighting hard to keep our school, a hopeful beacon to bring new young families to our community, because without our school, young families may move away. We love our school!

Located at 9800 feet in the norther mountains fo Colorado's front range, the school of less than 50 kids is the little school that can. We introduced our newest child, a beautiful young girl from Ethiopia, to the staff and students of this wonderful school, less than two months ago, and she has blossomed. Being in the United States for less than 4 months, with little English, new family, new culture, the students and staff embraced her with open arms. School at Red Feather is so different than school in Ethiopia! It is fun and even the teachers are nice.
