I have two students enrolled in SSMS. This school has been recognized as a School of Excellence by the Colorado Department of Education since 2005. It is also a School of Distinction and a Trailblazer School to Watch. Great Leadership. Wonderful school.

Both our children have attended this middle school. It's an ok school. I found the most important thing to the principal is winning awards, test scores and sporting events. Not the kids. The teachers are very dedicated.

Steamboat Springs Middle School does an admirable job dealing with the day-to-day frustrations that come standard with young teens. Required foreign language, music, art, PE, shop and home-ec courses complement a good core language/history/math/science curriculum. Specific offerings for high-ability kids are somewhat limited, but teachers and staff work hard to supplement in-class offerings with community resources. All-in-all, we're pleased and proud to live here.

Steamboat Springs Middle School was good for both my children. Academically, it challenged them enough to keep them interested. They achieved at high levels which supported their self-confidence. This was important for them because they had been home-schooled for 3 years prior to their attendance at this school. We didn't know where they stacked up. Socially, my children were very comfortable in the school; the staff is attentive enough to keep it safe, yet hands-off enough to let them 'figure it out'. The teachers were, all-in-all, good roll models and inspiring leaders.
