The school is good...the problem is that they don't offer many electives that you can get at larger schools. It would be nice if they offered photography on site...but if you want that, you have to sign up for Pickens Tech, which means you go to school in Aurora for at least 1/2 the day. I feel like my kids got jipped, when it came to the 'extras'.

You know. I loved this school I really did, I had to move about half way through which was really sad. I made so many wonderful friends there, I loved the teachers. You could share jokes in class and just have a great ol' time. I've been going to two different High Schools now and neither of them compare to Strasburg! SHS Go Indians! However, the only thing I'll say is that they are very very much into sports, at times very unfair to oh let's say the drama department. At any rate, it's a wonderful school and I would recommend it. Let's just say, it's x20 times better than Byers High School.

I was bullied on numerous occasions at this school. I would agree with the others when it comes to favoritism; it's a big thing at this school. The teachers, as well as the principle are very close-minded.

this is a small school mentality and there are a myriad of positive attributes such as a gifted and talented program. The student to teacher ration is terrific. Beyond that, this is a school that soley depends on the motivation of the student, as does any other institution. If your child does slip through the cracks, it wasn't becasue the school district didn't do everything the could.

I was a student in this school and graduated three and a half years ago. I spend my entire school life in Strasburg and it never got better. Favoritism had been in that school from the time I was in the 1st grade. You don't have the name, you don't play the game. That is all the school is about too. Sports, sports, and sports. I do not recommend this school for any student who wants to succeed past sports.

We have only lived here 3 years, but I have had more problems communicating with the staff here then I did at the last school my child went to that had 1500+ students. I see the athletic favortism, and other favoritism as well. I still cannot believe we have a rock climbing team and no home economics class. I think priorities should be evaluated. We felt very unaccepted when we moved to this school, as if outsiders were not welcome. My child's first year here was so traumatic, I had to remove her from the school for 2 months, and home school. We have tried again, but because of the lack of communication from the administration, I am again considering home schooling.

The quality of education and atmosphere is on the rise here. Most of the teachers genuinely care about the kids, and classes are still small enough for them to be able to give attention to those who need it. There is good and bad to the small town mentality - a lot of the good here is that you see parents involved, the whole town show up to games and concerts and such, and kids KNOW that the teachers WILL speak to parents. The bad side is that yes, athletes do get special status, and not enough attention is paid to the bully problem. I have a problem with teachers losing kids work consistently, or paying more attention to athlets or children of their friends.Overall Strasburg is a great school and the kids are AWESOME! I feel that the new administration feels that they have control over our children 24/7. There are a few good teachers but favoritism is shown towards atheletes. The only extracurricular activities are basically sports. There is no gifted or talented program. And no intention of ever having one according to the superintendent. I know alot of graduates that have had to take remedial courses upon entering college even though they had 3.0 and 4.0 GPA. I have lived in this town for 14 years and have seen this school district go down hill. It is very hard to get change. I have as numerous parents tried. I have a child that scored in the 98% percentile on his ACT that he took in 7th grade. He is in 9th grade now and we will be sending this him to another school this next year. I do not recommend this school.

It is a samll town school and the teachers care but they do hold small town values like the parents are responsible to raise their kids not the schools. I think they are right on track and do a fantastic job.
