I have a child that just completed second grade at Stargate School and another to start fall 2014. The school is really quite excellent. The sense of community is outstanding. The teachers are amazing. The principal is awesome. There are more specials offerings than the traditional schools. The music program is truly fantastic, I've been so impressed with it already. The homework levels seem to have dropped a lot since my kid started here. When she first started it seemed like there was a lot more homework, but I feel that they are working hard to ensure the load isn't too big so the kids can still do other things and you know, be kids. The rest of the district uses Everday Math, which I disagree with entirely. Stargate uses Singapore Math. At first it was frustrating to figure out what the purpose of the lower math was, but now that my daughter is entering 3rd grade I really see the true genius in it. The way she can manipulate numbers and do complex problems in her head is amazing. I do have concerns about the expansion plans, but the school has been around for 20 years, I do feel like they have as good of a chance as any of making it work and making it work well.

I am worried about the growth Stargate is allowing next year. I think it's too much, too fast. Adding kids in every grade K-5? How is that keeping standards high? What is the plan for incorporating all of these new students into the building and culture at Stargate? I wonder if this is just for money or if something else is happening. All I know is that it was difficult for my child to be accepted into the school and now it seems they are emptying the wait list to fill classrooms (classrooms they have no space for, by the way.) Can just anybody get in here now? These kids can't possibly all be of the same caliber and high IQ as past students who were accepted. It doesn't make sense and I am not buying all of the answers from administration. I might not wait to see what corner of the building my child is stuck into next year. I am very disappointed. This is not what we signed up for at Stargate.

We have one child at Stargate and he loves it,as do we. They recently changed their homework model which now allows kids to be kids, while still learning and being challenged. The Principal is very hands on in all aspects of the school and truly cares about the well being of each and every student. We are very excited that Stargate plans to expand from K-8 to K-12. I was worried that my son would leave Stargate and have to go to the assigned high school in our area, which is not rated very well. But now he can stay with Stargate until he leaves for college. The staff are trained on how to teach the GT students and are required to take continuous training each year to learn new GT teaching principles. My son is learning things in 1st grade, that I was never taught ever in my lower education years. And he comes home excited about everything he is learning. He is 6 years old and reading at a level of a 10 year old. The school truly meets our every expectation and then some.

My son and I went in to stargate for a tour, I was blown away by everything, the layout of the classrooms, the artwork on the walls, how happy all the staff seemed. Most of all the principal Josh Cochran was absolutely amazing, he covered everything answered any and all questions with the such confidence. I highly recommend this school.

We faced the good problem of being offered a spot in each random selection process for charter schools in our area. After point-by-point comparisons, research, and visits, we chose Stargate School. Teachers are trained and attuned to gifted and talented student development, a task that is not achievable or desired by all educators. These teachers wanted to be here. After collaborating with us to gain a more precise understanding of how our child learns best, under Stargate teachers we began to see steady progress in our child's reading, vocabulary, civic awareness, etiquette, math skills, and curiosity levels. There is more homework than expected for a kindergartener here, however, this is respectful of the children and their future. Early acclimation to what a person will later face is an early investment in their long term success. And at Stargate it is done with a heart and a love for the students on the part of staff and teachers. This is visible in the kids as they work and play. And these children are from many socio-economic backgrounds. The principal, Mr. Cochran heads up a staff that applies standards of excellence to themselves. They are adaptive, professional, and kind.

We are very impressed with Stargate!! My daughter loves going to school everyday! She is in second grade but doing 5th grade literacy. They have met her every need! If you are considering a school for your gifted child I highly recommend Stargate!!

I am pleased to see this school with a rating of 10. Having kids who have to pass an IQ test to get accepted should ensure high test scores. Unfortunately, when my children attended there was so much seat work and homework that they didn't enjoy school or have time after school for other activities. I moved my kids to a school that is more well rounded. I am pleased to see that above all else, my children are enjoying learning, instead of dreading school. The teachers were mostly kind and yet seemed to have a lot of pressure on them as well as passing it onto the kids.

My child attended regular public school for K and 1st grades. She switched to Stargate for 2nd grade, and it has made all the difference. Stargate is really tailored to gifted kids, and they know how to work with these kids. The teachers and staff are awesome, and are caring and involved. Are there problems, of course there are, no school is perfect. But I can definitely say that Stargate has really helped my daughter to grow and expand way more than she would have in regular public school.

Oh no. Another change in administration for Stargate. They just can't seem to keep a principal for very long. The current vice principal only worked as a gym teacher for 9 months. Perhaps they are looking in the wrong place for leadership? Good luck to them. I'm putting my kids back in our local school. Stargate is not a happy place.

I couldn't be happier with this school. It allows the children to learn at their own pace, in an appropriate level of literacy and math. The teachers and staff are fantastic and caring. The school makes a great effort to let these exceptional children learn in an environment just for them - but also allows these children to grow up in an environment that embraces childhood as well. There are plenty of parties, field trips, events, and sports for everyone.

My child Loves all of the opportunities he has. The 3rd and 4th graders learned about Economics and not only was this amazing project fun and engaging but the Parents were invited to come in and Shop the products the students created. My high school student did not learn this much about economics! The Staff, Administration and School Is amazing! They still have athletics for 6th-8th and the Community events are So Much Fun!!! I just wish there was a school like this when I was a kid!

Duped! I made the mistake of transferring my son in 6th grade (this year) to Stargate. I thought Stargate would be be so much better than the Academy of Charter Schools. I was wrong. My son was in the GT program at the Academy. In 3rd grade he was placed in a 5th grade math class. Last year in 5th grade he actually completed Algebra 1 at the Academy. We decided to move him to Stargate thinking it would be a better fit. We were told during the orientation that they offer higher level math and kids were taking above grade level courses. This does not seem to be true. Stargate does not teach to the child's needs only to their curriculim. My son is now taking pre-algebra because they can't/ won't move him to the middle school for math. He is bored to death. They act like he's the first kid there who can perform above grade level and this is a gifted school where you need a high IQ to attend. They say they are now working on fixing this. It's ridiculous. We are now looking to move our son back to the Academy for 7th grade. He lost a whole year of math knowledge at Stargate. If your child starts out at Stargate you won't truly know what they're capable of.

I love my school! :) The teachers are friendly and understanding. They try to teach in the most fun way possible, whether it's going outside to do some chalk drawings or to watch some movies and take notes. I also love how it has a Band/Orchestra program, and that you can enroll in the program at 5th grade. All the teachers are totally dedicated and awesome. Stargate's an awesome school.

My son is physically challenged. At his last school, the teachers let him get away with doing practically nothing. I have to presume it was easier to just let him slide than to give him the effort he really needed to be successful. Since the first day he went to Stargate he has been encouraged to do his best. He was behind his classmates in nearly every category, and was several levels behind in reading. No one there has ever given up on him. He does the same work as any other kid in his class and has very good grades. I have to think that if we had left him in the other school they would have made him 'disabled' by not expecting him to compete with his peers. Moving my son to Stargate was one of the best decisions we ever made!

Why do you love Stargate Charter School? Stargate Charter School is truely a unique school in that it serves the gifted and talented children in our community. The majority of the schools in our district are focused on the large population of children that are ESL or ELL and the children that are below grade level. Stargate is also made up of a staff that genuinely cares about the students and their parents. There really should be more schools like Stargate!

We have the best Head of School! Sharon Kenyon is the greatest leader in our schools history! We are a school that serves only gifted students, which is a highly overlooked but important segment of our population. Stargate is teaching our brightest children to be character driven individuals that will do great things for our world!

I am a current student at Stargate, and have gone here for 2 years and am begging my parents to transfer schools. The 5,6,7,8 gradew teachers are very rude and have very little respect for there students. The atletics is also horrible. I got kiked off the vollyball team because a told a girl to 'get the ball!' Please do not put you child through what I have gone through.

stargate is a great school, the curriculum and the teachers are great. Although the schools culture is a disaster as a result of a few zealous parents who are militant about trying to remove the head of school and take control for themselves

Stargate is a challenging, motivating school that really cares about student success. I am really impressed with recent changes the school administration has made such as creating a lower head of school position and adding a vice principle position. I also believe the new board structure will help the school more effectively meet it's mission

The 2008/2009 year is a transition year for Stargate. The school has suffered some growing pains and a loss of it's sense of identity. My family has been involved with Stargate for nine years and the 'feel' of the school today is very different than it once was. I cannot say enough nice things about the first seven years but then came some major changes and with them problems were encountered. My major focus has always been my children so I always took a long hard look at what was happening as it pertained to my child's education. The current 'feel' of the school is cold and impersonal as compared to the past. The sense of break though education for the gifted is now just a passing thought. There is no 'wow' factor in the school. It is still a good school just not the cutting edge of gifted education.

The teachers at this school are great. Whereas obviously the head of school and the board of directors caused some issues, hope is on the horizon with a new Board with parent membership. For a child that is way ahead of her peers, this is a safe talented and gifted school that challenges the kids.

Stargate used to be a really great school, with amazing teachers and a great principle. But in the past two years, the 'head of school,' has made Sargate a different place. The older kids are way to restricted on what they can do, and it seems like the younger kids are the only focus of the administration. The school is no longer a fun place to be, now it feels like an overwhelming, overpriced, and overrated school.

I have been at Stargate for many years. It started out as a great school with lots of heart. It used to be clear that each child reaching their full potential was the goal. In the past two years the focus has changed to creating a school that runs like a business. It seems that once the principal title was changed to Head of School, all of the kindness that the school once possessed was left behind. The Board of Directors has removed the parental vote and is now self perpetuating. This has created a school which is no longer concerned with the needs of the families they are supposed to be serving. It is a shame that the once spectacular Charter school has been turned into a regular school with no attention paid to what made it great in the first place.

We have been involved with Stargate for 5 years now and couldn't be happier. Our children are challenged and enjoy school. The are with kids 'in their age group' but they learn at their academic level. The principal, administration and especially the teachers are the best in the state. They are attentived to the needs of our children and are very responsive to us as parents. They really care about our children. The extracurricular activities are growing every year. There are many clubs to choose from now (sports, art, drama, science, cheerleading, etc.) It is amazing how far this school has come in such a short time. We are so happy we found Stargate!

I am a student at Stargate and i am a person to encounter the actoions that the school has taken for all of the grades kindergarden through eighth grade. I think that the school did a good job at the beggining of the life of the school but since then the school has gone down at a rapid rate. Many of the children that are at the school are being neglected from what they need as being children. The school administration that controls the school has done a very bad job of keeping track of the older, higher grade students. First hand everyday i experience that wrong doing of the school on students and parents. I dislike that the student body has no power what so ever in introducing new ideas to make Stargate a very strong and safe community for all of the kids and parents to enjoy. -Nicholas Reisch

I've been in Stargate for eight years, and it's a great school. The teachers are really involved, and one-to-one with the students. Even though we have had several directors in the last few years, they have all been really great. Stargate has electives and sports for the 7/8, and 'specials' for all grades, including art, music, PE, and computers. I'll be really sad when I leave at the end of this year!

My child feels very safe at Stargate. There are many security implements in place. The staff is well trained in everything from bullying to lockdown procedures. Our daughter thrives because Stargate allows her to be her truest, brightest self. She doesn't have to pretend not to be as smart, just to fit in. Her sense of humor, personality, and vocabulary, and confidence level have soared due to this. Stargate also helps students to be of high moral character. The homework is not intense or overwhelming at all, and in fact Stargate is excellent at intereactive project presentations for all grade levels. This is so important in a student's personal, public speaking, and academic development. Stargate's staff and administration is of the highest level of professionalism and courteousness. They really go out of their way to make everyone feel included in the Stargate family. Stargate truly is a high quality educational program without the tuition.

Stargate Charter School has significant problems on the playground with bullying. There is a significant lack of consistency in the administration (four different Directors in the past five years), and varying quality of teachers across the grades. The homework and project load is significant and often costly. Our kids have yet to have instruction that truly meets their needs; instead, they've been guinea pigs for various instruction models and programs. As a result, our kids' education in core subjects has been fragmented and has considerable gaps (compared to District standards). The support staff has caused some of the worst experiences our kids have had because they lack in common sense and initiative to take care of simple problems. We are considering pulling our kids out of Stargate, after five agonizing years. The school sure isn't what it's advertised to be....

Stargate is a wonderful school. My son has autism yet this school has gone out of it's way to help, and teach. The teachers are excited about what they are doing. They teach with a spiral tech. that gives a child in depth knowledge on the subjects they are learning about. They focus on teaching critical thinking, and do a great job of it. This is my son's 3rd year at this school. I wish I would have found it earlier. The only problem is there is no high school counterpart to this program.

We are in our third year at Stargate and we could not be happier. The teachers have challenged my GT student while providing a loving and nurturing environment. Although some of the children and families can be intense there is an overall community spirit that helps this group of academically gifted students and their families feel at ease about their educational choice. There is a lot of transition due to the demanding homework and the need for constant fundraising for the families but it has been well worth it!

I've been going to Stargate since the third grade. I really really like it there. Being a student, Im not that focussed on the education aspect. I like Stargate because it doesn't have clique problems. Well maybe a couple, but nothing compared to the normal school system. I've actually found really good friends. I was always 'the smart one' at my other schools, but now I found people I can connect with. You can't imagine how cool that is. Stargate is like my home, it's the greatest!

My daughter has been at Stargate for 3 years and She WILL NOT be coming back. My daughter started Kindergarten and it was a wonderful experience! But first and second grade has been a nightmare. Not because of the homework put because of the teachers and the curriculum that is very vague and changes continuously. All the paperwork and promises are for show. It is not a gifted school anymore but the IN place for your child. What is great are the parents that teach the kids at night why the teachers push paperwork at them to keep the look of high standard. Even though my daughter is doing well there we have to go private because my daughter now hates school and she is only 7.

Stargate has challenged my son and broadened his horizons in all areas - not just those he excels in. They have great extra-curricular activities although they lack a little in the sports area. We are new parents at Stargate. Our daughter could succeed at a regular public school, however, we chose the school for our daughter because we believe she needs to be challenged. She loves it and we love it! In addition to her education there are also many opportunities for parents to be involved and extension and enrichment activities for our daughter. Diversity of student population was also of some concern, however, there is diversity and education regarding the respect of all those who are different. We love it and more importantly my daughter loves it.

We've been at Stargate from 2nd thru 5th grades. Many of the teachers are extrodinary, a few aren't. Linda Ciccarelli, the new director has the potential to be a great director. The opportunities to be involved as a parent are one of the reasons we came to Stargate. They were also the only option for my gifted kid who also has a learning disability. They are committeed to every teacher teaching a gifted cirriculum. They are a much needed resource in our district.

We have two children at Stargate, and have been there for 4 years. It has had its ups and downs, particularly with keeping an executive director. However, our children continue to flourish, and to be very challenged. Our motto as a family is: Even an imperfect education at Stargate is better than we would find elsewhere.' No school is perfect, and Stargate manages to provide a high quality education for the students even when faced with other challenges. All in all I am pleased with my children's experiences.
