My summary in a nutshell: Students are all treated equally, some are treated more equally than others. Teachers are a mixed bag. I've had some teachers that are really flexible and really cared; while others would care less about you and would be very hard to work around. The homework is what teaches the class, not the teacher. The teacher will teach what is necessary to complete the homework. If you didn't do the homework, you were punished with not only a bad grade but the teacher wouldn't help for you to catch up. However, there are fewer teachers that don't follow said method. Those are very few teachers that will utilize class time to teach students. The school sports team were also a mixed bag. If the sports aren't boys football, boys basketball, and boys baseball expect very few people to show up at your games. Harassment and bullying are often left unpunished. Near the yugioh table, those kids often get harassed and administrators are right there watching it happen, not even bothering to stop it. However, if the same harassment happens to other kids, oh man are they on the ball stopping that. Bullying is also a roaming problem is rarely addressed at all by the staff.

I graduated from SLHS in 2009 and cannot recommend this school to any parent with progressive or intellectual values. With the exception of the AP courses I took, my schoolwork was a joke and my grades suffered because I didn't do it. It wasn't enough that the subject material was easy; the teachers I had did not care. They would go off topic, make jokes, assign mundane tasks so that they could go work on other interests. In general, the school was lacking academically. I am now at CU Boulder, but I am convinced that at a better school I could've gone to a Top 20 research university. The more serious issue, however, is how I was treated as a gay person at Standley. There is an anti bullying policy, however, except for a few counselors nobody takes it seriously. I was called a faggot as I walked through the halls, and was even once called a faggot by a teacher. The community at Standley abhors diversity, and I felt alone and depressed most of my time there and know that every other LGBT student, nonreligious students, students of color, or just people that diverged from Standley's white, Christian, patriarchal values felt the same. If you value diversity, pick another school.

As a student at SLHS, I have recieved excellent opportunities. While I can understand that this school could be a problem for students not as driven to succeed as I am, all schools can be challenging for such students. I have taken IB, AP, and Honors courses, and find that as the IB program grows, so will the school in its academic excellence. The principle this year, Jeff Pierson, is trying to spark the needed school pride, which is not a strong point of the school. All of the teachers that I have had (which would be AP, IB , and Honors teachers) are passionate about their subjects and inspiring. All I can say is, if you are on the honors track, this school will give you the preparation you need for college along with the inspiration to go somewhere.

Honestly I've hated it here. I'm a Junior and I've just hated it. Students are stupid, they don't care about their education, there are a ton of smokers and when they get caught they do nothing more than kick them out and ruin their futures. Instead of making kids awared of the risks. My sister got kicked out for being at the smokers pit. and got EXPELLED. Don't you need to bring a gun to school to be expelled? There are a ton of trouble makers too. The building is out dated, the computers are slow, furnature is dirty. We don't really have a janitor we have kids vaccuming instead. I've never had a bad teacher but that doesn't mean I've had all of them yet. I've had one or two who didn't really care at all. I doubt the CSAP scores. I scored poorly. It's so stupid how they make us spend so much energy and time on a test so THEY get paid instead of making us focus on important thing like: Our education. I was really considering going to Pomona before I went here. I'm convinced that my GPA would be higher if I did go there.

I cannot believe this school gets an 8 rating. Someone is cooking the CSAP scores. I have had 2 students go to this school and they deliver a poor education. Teachers fail to show up for scheduled parent meetings. Its all about the CSAP then the rest of the year vacation

I am a student at this school. ive had alot of problems and issues with it. the teachers arent always their to help durin before school after school and during resorce on wensday. if they are, their are alot of other kids there tryin to get helo and u dont get the help you want. alot of the students there are very rude mean and dont care about other people. the staff principles vice principles are the worst, the only thing the focus on is drugs and ditching not bigger issues like bullin harasment or other things.

We have had a very good experience for the last 3 years and this is our senior year. It has been a good atmosphere, teachers accessible. The music program has been very good for our son.

Academic programs - pretty good, excellent in some areas. Some teachers waste time in the longer block periods by having kids do homework instead of engaging in relevant activities or instruction. Homework is to be done at home. If some students need extra help, they can always see the teacher on their own. Girls' tennis should be funded! That is unfair and absurd!

Both of my sons attend(ed) Standley Lake H.S. and one graduated in 2001 the other a sophomore. I have had nothing but fantastic experience with teachers, counselors, coaches and other parents. My older son has great memories and my younger is forming them. Teachers have high expectations and make the kids live up to them. Coaches stress teamwork and good grades
