Teachers are paid more than my hubby, and they get summers off, spring break, winter break, and teacher days. Some teachers should be fired, while others should get rewards for their extra hard work.

Unions do not allow merit pay. So you cannot weed out good teachers and throw away bad teachers. You good teachers are working to pay the bad teacher salaries. If you support unions then don't.

No, I believe that public school has been turned into the food stamp equivalent of baby sitting. We foist too many 'home' issues into the school system and then pay the teachers near minimum wage.

No. We entrust our kids to the teachers, and not only are they attempting to teach academic skills, but also life skills that are not being taught at home. Truly good teachers are worth their weight in gold.

Hmm, if we are talking about CA, then I would have to say Yes. Being 49th in the country, doesn't qualify for a pay increase. A strong educational system is vital for our economy now and in the future, we need reform and more accountability.

If we paid our teachers according to the quality of their work we would have far less so-so teachers. It would be the best investment a city could make.

Excellent teachers are not paid enough. They never could be paid adeqautely.
But what they are really not given is professional support through in-service training similar to that afforded other professions.
Teachers need to feel deeply respected!

Yes I do considering they work 9 mths a year and have a minimum of 4 weeks vacation during that 9 mth period. I do believe SOME (but few) teachers deserve more money...and that most do NOT do it for the love of the children or the job.

NO! This tweet says it all. @cate_long: In 2009 25 hedge fund managers were paid the equivalent of 680,000 school teachers http://huff.to/8ZyGAy
