I have 3 children that have benefited from the Barkhamsted School and their exceptional staff. My son has had some developmental delays and he has received outstanding care and support. Barkhamsted school really goes above and beyond for the students. The principle and staff are dedicated, caring, encouraging and involved. Fabulous school and I highly recommend. The best teacher/parent communication. I will miss you all at Barkhamsted! And Thank you! L. Johnson

The school is moderate if your child is 'normal', but if they need extra help, the school is impatient. Also, they tend to allow teachers to switch from grade to grade and students often have to deal with the same teacher more than once...many of these teachers do not have good reputations among many parents yet this practice is allowed to continue. The school schedule is also very frustrating, instead of having days off lumped together, the school will have two days off and then the students end up with not getting out for Thanksgiving or Christmas until the day before the holiday....not considerate of students with family out of town.

As a family who transfers (with a company) a lot, this has, by far, been the best school we've encountered. Teachers really care about the kids, extracurricular activities are A+ and the close-knit small community is very involved and supportive. My son was in K-1 here and my other was in the separate pre-K program. We can only hope in our soon-to-be next move we can find as great a school as this. It sets the bar high! We will miss it!

When we moved to Barkhamsted, my 5th grader was having trouble academically. Her teacher and other staff worked with her, one-on-one and with us to get her up to speed. We coordinated email and notes weekly to reign in her weaknessess and strengths. By the end of the year she was right beside her classmates academically. Thank you Mrs. Connole!
