The school is what it is. Students are drawn from the more affluent sections of Branford, thus there are many stay at home parents that get involved. After hearing from other parents when I moved here, I expected something overwhelming with the school. I don't think my kids, and by extension their classmates are challenged enough. They seem to move slowly with subject matter, though I think that is done to ensure all the students progress through the material. I would prefer less standard worksheets and more free form blank pages from the teachers. It would allow a child to take things further if they have the aptitude and support from the educators. My children would advance further if they weren't restricted by that, but that is just public school. The first time I spoke to a neighbor about school the comment was "Tisko is like a private school". I don't see that. Although it is probably very decent in terms of a public school in New Haven county. But if I could afford it, I would send my kids to Foote (the "elite" families of New Haven county gravitate there) or Coldspring (believers in that free form education sheet I talked about above).
