I think that there are some great teachers at Staples H.S. Both my sons (C'2008 and C'2009) and now my daughter (C'2013) have/had teachers that made a positive impact in their learning experience. The school has teachers that really care and are knowledgeable. What I don't like about the school is that the average student gets lost a bit because there is so much competition. It is hard to get a part in the musical, it is hard to get on the varsity team and it is hard to stand out academically. If you are not a very strong student it is easy to get overlooked. My sons feel college is less competitive than Staples High School and they both go to excellent colleges.

I am considering commuting my 6th Grade daughter for grades 7 and 8 to the private school in Westchester that she loves and is thriving in, until high school at which point I do not want to commute but would like her to attend Staples High school starting right in the beginning of 9th grade. Am I setting her up for social disaster if she has only a few acquaintances/no real friends at the school, or are there others in her same shoes and does the administration help kids acclimate initially socially? Would she be at high risk for bullying? All thoughts so helpful. Our life would make beautiful sense, finally, if we could do this without harming her.

As a former student at Staples High I have the following comments.
The facilities are excellent.
The preparation for college or university studies is excellent.
The diversity of course offerings for college or university studies is excellent.
The credentials of the faculty are impressive.
HOWEVER
God bless your son or daughter if they do not live in a 2.5 million dollar home or they don't have an IQ of 130+. Staples prepared me very well for college and subsequent graduate school. I enjoy a successful career. I left Westport the fall after graduating and never returned. It is not the type of community I want for my children.
