My children have been at highland school for 5 years now. I can say I am 100% happy with all aspects of this school. We have has the most wonderful caring teachers- Mrs. Sullly has gone above and beyond to make my children feel comfortable when they were so very nervous entering this bigger school. The class sizes reman smaller even with the budget cuts, and it just just a great environment for my 3 kids- one with mild special needs. So glad we are in this district!

My friend just told me there were 2 less than glowing reviews on here- I was shocked! My daughter had a bullying issue - Mrs. scully was all over it, fixed the problem in one DS, and even followed up. She is fair, honest and unlike some principals around here ( we were in Doolittle school for a year, I was appalled with the principal) - actually encourages parent involvement- so refreshing, We have had 5/6 perfect teachers - absolutely amazing. My children did so well on cmt's with no added pressure from teachers, they made those standard tests fun for the kids, not an easy feat to accomplish! Highland gets 2 big thumbs up in my book!!

The principle, Beverly Scully, has little or no leadership skill for a large school like Highland. Try not to raise any concern about anything or else your child will be picked on everyday and in the principle's office. Some of the teachers are very mean and the principle and her assistant are actually worse. I am so worried about my child!

I think is over rated. # of my children went to highland and were struggling. The teachers that my kids for most of the grades were not very helpful. Some were even annoyed that they were struggling. Some teachers made my kids feel very uncomfortable. They did poorly on their CMTs. We moved to another town and switched schools. My kids were immediately taking in by these teachers in the hamden school system. All of the teachers so far havebeen nuturing and very caring and interested in my childrens growth and knowledge. There CMT scores have risen to average and above average. 2 of my kids are straight A's and on levels 7 and 9. I couldn't ask for more. I do wish they recieved the help early on while in Highland but I am thankful thatthey are doingas well as they are.
