Jared Eliot School has been a great middle school for my 3 sons. I am extremely impressed with the quality of the teachers over the years that my children have passed through. Jared Eliot School provides a challenging curriculum and teachers who are actively involved in addressing any academic or behavioral issues that might arise. The current administration is great improvement over some in the past and they are strong leaders who make sure teachers and students get the most out of the school academically, socially and culturally.

Questionable leadership. Lack of creativity. Very few good teachers and an overwelming inability to deal with real life issuues.

The teachers we have had a very caring, but the academics are not rigorous. There is a prevalent attitude to make sure the kids have fun and really like school. That's great, really it is, but the projects that have had to do are fluffy. For example, a couple of class projects were 'cut relevant pictures from a magazine and paste them on poster board'. More recent ones include making power point presentations, which is an improvement. But, call me crazy, I'd like to see the kids be able to write an actual research paper. At least one for the year. They aren't doing enough writing. The atmosphere of the school is caring, I just wish it was a bit more rigorous.

Persistent problems with leadership. In the past 2 years, a number of school district personnel have been arrested for drug related charges and for having sexual relationships with students. Unimpressive teaching staff. My children were miserable here. Parents are not encouraged to be involved beyond superficial levels (bake sales and other fundraisers).

I have 3 kids that are either in this school or passed through it. I question the leaderships judgement and fairness. Education has the 'social promotion' attitude. Definitly not satisfied with the leaderships policies and responses to issues raised. Some good teachers are part of the staff - but I see them held back due to policies/procedures set by the leadership.
