There are teachers aids for students that have learning differences. The disruption from these children, while remaining in the same classroom as students without learning differences, has been minimized.
Homework is very light for second and third graders (the only years my son has attended) and I feel like it places an importance of creating daily study habits more than trying to make up for what was lacked during the day.
This is a great school. Teachers are compassionate, helpful and attentive. My son has issues with sitting still, but his teacher has made accommodations so that he is able to learn in a more physical way without disturbing other students. The small classes and individual care for each family from the administration is what sets this school apart from other public schools.
I feel this school is dismal, antiquated, dirty, unorganized, and uninspiring. Behavior problems remain in the classroom and are a distraction to those trying to learn. There are some amazing teachers there. Slowly they are all leaving. The PTA is very involved and does their best to make improvements. My children look forward to 0 specials. If you decide to move to the beautiful Southport area, make sure you have extra for private school.
Mill Hill is a terrific school. The teachers are amazing, at all levels top notch. The new principal is doing a good job and for once actually likes children. The biggest problem is parents, specifically PTA parents who care far more about their own socialization than their childrens' learning or for that matter behavior. Stay away from the PTA and get involved in the Classroom and you will love Mill Hill.
My child just completed kindergarten at Mill Hill School and I can honestly say, 'so far, so good'. Although I found the teacher's basic approach slightly rigid at first, my child exceeded all my academic expectations while forming tight bonds with both classmates and teachers. I could not believe the standards for kindergarteners were held so high, but I am thrilled to see that they were. Great first year at Mill Hill and looking forward to many more great ones to come.
