couldn't be happier at this school. the 2009 review baffles me, as the school's academics are outstanding (surprised us to the upside), and i don't know any fellow parents who would disagree. the school has had a rough year with land negotiations, but in the end it worked out well for us and stanwich will soon be the only k-12 coed independent school in greenwich.
Our children joined Stanwich 3 years ago, and we have watched them 'mushroom' into confident, responsible and self motivated children through the expert guidance of their teachers. The small group teaching within the classroom allows each child to be challenged to their ability, with high expectations from their teachers. All faculty take their responsibilities of teaching very seriously, and show extreme dedication, caring and commitment to guiding the children not only academically, but also socially and ethically. The Stanwich values program and Stanwich Seven, are preached and practiced every day. My children love going to school each day, they have wonderful friends with warm, welcoming families. I can't imagine a better foundation for my children.
Stanwich teachers have a close one-on -one relationship with each child, so students are apt to try harder and achieve higher goals. Perhaps this is why Stanwich's curriculum is approximately a year ahead of most public and private schools in the area, yet it certainly is not a pressure cooker environment. Students are taught to learn for the love of learning, which leaves the doors open for them to identify interests and passions - invaluable as they mature and enter higher learning environments in the future.
This is a school that expects a great deal of its students, and makes a Herculean effort to include the parents as well in the school. There is a strong focus on the "whole child" - top-level academics, but also getting along with and helping others, and being aware of the world around you. It is a special place, and a transformative, positive experience for a child. The expectations are great, but the outcomes are as well.
The academics are challenging and the grading strict but fair (no grade inflation). I like the higher standards especially for subjects like handwriting, grammar, and personal ethics. It was a reputation for being full of nice kids and it s true.

Excellent school in every way.
I found the quality of teachers at this school very disappointing. The Math and science departments were very weak and i felt that admin did not contact parents effectively.
