As a recent graduate of Haddam-Killingworth High School, I can only say good things about the education I received and the time I spent there. Now a sophomore at a private University in Rhode Island, I feel as if HKHS better prepared me for secondary education than a lot of the high schools my college peers attended - either public or private. HK's strong college-prepatory curriculum and strong environment for success are what helped me to achieve. Furthermore, my graduating class at HK was so academically competitive that my 3.5 GPA actually landed me in the bottom half of the class rank! Parents contemplating a relocating to the RSD-17 school district should know that the area is not demographically or economically diverse...that may or may not explain the school s appeal and success. Take it as you will.

For a number of years, the high school went through a period of time where the school had numerous principals. My daughter who graduated in 2001 had 3 different principals during her 4 years of high schools. A few years ago a principal was hired who had worked in the district for years and has since brought stability to the school, improved morale, and has brought confidence back in the high school leadership on the part of many parents in our communities.Students needs consistancy and final they have it. Nice job.

Being a current student at Haddam Killingworth High School, I would like to state my opinion. Personally, after being through the school for 3 years, I am quite atonished as to how students are treated in class. A majority of teachers ask students to politely quiet down when they are ready to begin a classroom discussion. Some teachers at HK will unpolitely shout 'Shut up' to their students. If you are looking forward to sitting at a table during lunch, do not get your hopes up. The district has not bothered to purchase enough tables to seat all students. Another downside if you have not heard the rumor is our sport teams are not very competative. Overall, if you are looking for a highschool to attend HK may not be the school you are interested in.

Being a former student at HK, I feel as though I need to express my feelings about the school. I absolutely loved it. Socially and academically, HK was top nothch. The teachers and staff are all very friendly and willing to help anyone and everyone in whatever way they can. The administration does it's best to keep a solid ground under the school, and thus far have done a great job. I graduated in 2004 and my dad was a graduate of the first class in 1978, and we both have very fond memories. The staff is very experienced, many being among the original members. There are a ton of exceptional extra-curricular activities and many award winning teams. The drama program has has been winning awards for years. There is even a student run restaurant. I was more than prepared for college when I arrived in the fall of '04. Good

Haddam Killingworth has provided me with a quality education that could rival many private schools. The teaching quality is incomparable to other schools in the area. The teachers are always willing to go the extra step to assure that every last student does well, as long as the student is mutually willing. The course offerings are diverse with college prep, AP, and eccelerated courses. The extracurriculars are abundent too with various clubs and organizations as well as many state title winning teams. If you are looking around for a good area to live in with a good school, the communities of Haddam and Killingworth are great; although very homogenous in socioeconomic and racial status, it is still a great place to live and the schools are just as good.
