My child is a student at NHA and Iam happy that he is there. It has great teachers and I luv that u can check grades on line. Most teacher update everyday or u can e-mail and they respn pretty quick. They have tutoring after school which is great and helpfully. Your child can never tell you that there is noone to help them because there is always someone to help. Princ is involve 100% which is great and knows all the students.
My son is a freshman at New Haven Academy and we both love it. From the day of shadowing a current student last year, Mark had a mutual connection with both some of the students and teachers. We made NHA our 1st and only choice after visiting Hopkins and Hamden Hall. Students stick up for each other when one may be mean-spirited to another so teachers don't always have to be involved; there is positive peer pressure for responsible behavior. The Principal teaches Freshman Seminar so he knows 1st hand every student entering the school. There is comprehensive, cohesive and coordinated support of students and their families from the academically challenged to the gifted. Every effort is made to enhance student success. If needed there is resource assistance during the school day and teachers stay after school for tutoring. To address the usual teen angst and/or personal situations, there is great social work coverage which we experienced when my son's grandfather passed away. Definately an A+ school. Megan Ifill
My child just started at this school. It has great potential - small classes, emphasis on critical thinking, a charismatic principal, many teachers who are excellent and who seem to believe in their students and want the best for them. I say "many" teachers, not all. There are an unfortunate few who are not of high quality - they have low expectations, are underprepared, and/or grade students in large part on behavior (good or bad) rather than student knowledge or performance. Test scores have remained relatively flat there for years - I'd love to see them push themselves to the next level. As far as parent involvement- the school defines how they want you to be involved without asking parents about their gifts or strengths.
When I came to NHA it was just a way to get away from my local high school, but once I was immersed in the culture of the school, I found so much more than an escape. I found a new place to grow and learn. NHA has become both my family, my community and my home. My teachers are competent and keep in constant contact with my parents. I also take classes at Quinnipiac University and participate in a variety of programs such as A.P courses and other great classes. A challenging curriculum, an environment that encourages you to raise your voice and support from students and staff alike, this is the best place for me. I wouldn't go elsewhere.
My son is academically challenged in all of his classes. The teachers, support staff and principal are wonderful. The computerized snap grade system is great because it allows us to view our son's academic progression in "live time". Thank you New Haven Academy for a five star edcational experience!---William and Cheryl Green, NHA parents
I moved my daughter from a highly rated suburban school district to this school, because although my daughter is an "A" student, our high school was too big, too competitive and she would have been lost in the woodwork. At NHA, she has become her own person, and is finding her voice, thanks to the stellar administration of principal Greg Baldwin and his wonderful teachers. Every teacher has shown a personal interest in helping my daughter improve herself, even though she is already a high achiever. I am so grateful my daughter has the opportunity to attend this school.
My daughter loves this school. She has become active in different causes and has gone already to college trips. They are very focused with the students and demand the very best of each. Very happy with the prep for college and aiming high.
I love the school and the staff. Greg Baldwin is a wonderful principal with great ideas and vision. My daughter has been there 2 yrs and loves the school and teachers more with each passing year. If your looking for a great education for your child and want a school with a 100% of students going onto college then look no further. I work in a school system and ours is pitiful compared to NHA, I can contact any and all teachers and staff members anytime even at home. They are on top of everything and keep parents involved. I could never pick a better High school even if I devoted all my time and effort. Keep up your great work and High standards.
