* New teachers without experience every year. * If you want your children spending all winter raining days inside classroom St Rose is the right school for you- poor school facility. * On sunny days children are allowed to go out during recess BUT can not step on the grass, they have to play in the parking lot. * My son's teacher is always on cell phone texting. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. * The school has an excellent school curriculum, the problem is the new teachers with no experience. They do not know how to follow the curriculum or teach the children. * Next school year again new changes - new Principal. * Some group of parents has too power over the school decisions, this is not good.
As a parent I feel the quality of academic programs is lacking. The content may be developed, but the inexperienced teaching staff should be replaced with veteran teachers who have experience in methods and strategies to deal with the complex problems that surface throughout the day. Two of my children who were entering 2nd and 3rd grade were looking forward to teachers their brothers and sisters have recently had. There gone too!
Our family joined the St. Rose School Community 10 years ago. At first it was because we felt our older son would thrive in a smaller, faith-based environment but we quickly fell in love with all the opportunities available to our children as well as the opportunities for a parent to be involved. I have been involved in my children's education for the past 10 years and I have been given many opportunities to volunteer in their classrooms, on field trips and at our school functions. I have always maintained a healthy level of communication with our teachers as well as the executive staff. The Academics have been strong and challenging for our boys and our freshman is thriving and well prepared for high school. Most importantly is our Faith. The children have daily religion and attend Mass weekly. What they learn at St. Rose reinforces what they learn at home. After spending 10 years watching these students grow, I have observed the following traits in all of them upon graduation from 8th grade: Respectful, Smart, Funny, Playful, Energetic, Eager, Enthusiastic, Sharing, Caring, Appreciative, Maturing, AMAZING!!! We thank God everyday for St. Rose School!
We have our two children enrolled, and as parents, are very involved with the community regularly, because we choose to be, and have so many opportunities to do so. My top three reasons for continuing my children's educations here are: COMMUNICATION--the doors are always open. The administration and staff are always willing and able to discuss any concerns. As a parent, it is my responsibility to voice my concerns and opinions, and I have always been able to do that, respectably. ACADEMICS, and my children's individual needs are not ever in question. As my son moves up in grades, the responsibilities and expectations are greater and challenging--and I have no words to express how he's blossomed this year with a teacher who has made him believe in himself and his abilities. The FAITH-based education is more then I thought it would be for my kids, as well as for myself, as a parent. They amaze me with the stories, the choosing of right or wrong because "that's what God would do" attitude, as well as the true understanding of their faith and how to use it daily. Communication. Academics. Faith. It's why we stay.
A great, warm environment where the children are taught honesty, kindness and respect along with their subjects. The faculty and staff are amazing, high energy, interesting individuals. St. Rose of Lima School is a school that genuinely cares about your child and wants to see them grow spiritually and intellectually. The science lab is like one found in high schools, and I love how they are with the times and implement the use of iPads in the classrooms.
St. Rose School provided an excellent education for my son. He was well prepared for high school in all subjects. The classes are small, the teachers are caring, the leadership is strong. Academics are strong but it is done in a faith based community. I love that students attend Mass every week. For a small school, the students are offered opportunities in art, STEM, science lab, foreign languages, public speaking, sports, and a variety of after school activities. I never second guessed my choice for my son to have a Catholic School education. St. Rose exceeded my expectations.
This is an OK school but the fact that parents are NOT allowed to partake in their child's' education makes it mediocre at best. Parents thought, needs, opinions are completely ignored.
St. Rose is the best school for my son. My daughter who is in high school is very thankful to St. Rose for preparing her academically and spiritually. Parents need to become more involved.
From an education perspective, you would have to do your own research on the quality of the education of public vs. private school. As a parent, I am not convinced that for the money required to send a child here, that the children are gaining anything academically. In terms of 'Catholic' education, again, I'd have to ask what that really means today. My children are taught more at home than in the classroom with regards to Catechism and we are talking about the 'basics' of Catholicism. The two star rating mostly due to the extreme lack of communication from the administration and parent/teacher organizations as is reflected in other reviews.
We ve been at St. Rose of Lima School for fourteen years. Our children attended from pre-school through eighth grade the youngest currently an eighth grader there. They received an excellent education in academics, organizational and critical thinking skills, extra-curricular activities and in living their faith. I spent many hours over the last fourteen years volunteering at the school. It has been my experience that the principal and faculty always have the well-being and success of each student at heart. They promote a community at St. Rose based on faith, mutual respect, and service to others. From pre-school right through eighth grade this has been a positive experience and well worth the sacrifices we made to send our children.
As parents, we should not have to continually discuss the possibility of moving our children to a another school. It is difficult because our children appear to be doing very well at the school but as a parent, communication from the administration and associated organizations has been extremely poor and attention to serious areas of concern lack communication and parent involvement. I have to agree with the other reviews listing communication as an issue. We also feel that the schools associated organizations have become very 'clicky' and closed to open communication with parents, no transparency. It is also in our humble opinion that the Pre-school is not given enough credit. The Pre-K program has wonderful caring teachers whose dedication is key to preparing the kids for entering Kindergarten. Pre-k get 5 stars hands down.
My children have been getting a very good education at Saint Rose. The school is very faith based , which is one of its strong points. The academics are rigorous but well worth the challenge for our kids. There are plenty of after school activities for the students to do throughout the year. All the teachers are top notch and genuinely care for the students offering extra help before and after school. The principal is a tireless worker and has lead the school through many changes that have been positive.
I love St Rose. The school really offers a sense of faith based community and a friendly atmosphere.
My two children have attended St. Rose School since kindergarten (grades 8 and 5). St. Rose as been terrific. My children have different personalities and learn styles. Both have thrived at St Rose. The principal is an exceptional leader and the teachers are top notch. The principal and teachers work in concert to ensure individual student achievement. St. Rose sets high standards that have helped my children develop into outstanding learners, friends and community members.
Our daughter recently entered St. Rose School after attending several years at our local public elementary school. I can honestly tell you that the transition has been very smooth and that we are all extremely happy. We are particularly thrilled with the greater intimacy a smaller more familial setting provides. The teachers and administration have been stellar . In this setting our daughter is comfortable with being herself while at the same time receiving an excellent education. She's happy and we're ecstatic.
We moved our children to St. Rose from a local public school. Best decision we have ever made. Period! The academics are top notch, our children are challenged like never before. They are taught by outstanding teachers who not only teach them the curriculum, but also responsibility and accountability. The faith based respect they are learning is priceless. The principal is quite possibly the hardest working person I know. The entire St. Rose community has been amazing. We are thrilled!
St. Rose is a faith-based, family oriented school where the staff cares for each child individually, providing love and learning.
We are so grateful for St. Rose and its dedicated teachers. We sent our son to the preschool fully intending to transition to Newtown public schools in kindergarten. Our wonderful experience in the PreK made us not want to change course. Just like a family, every school will have its transition periods and challenges, it just seems that students are set up for success here. The school's parameters and expectations help reinforce (and often galvanize) what we are trying to accomplish at home. I have observed a pattern of challenging curriculum, inspired teacher practices (with individual attention) and a strong foundation for continuity from grade to grade. St. Rose has created a dynamic world where students are given chances to rise to the occasion. I also have to applaud the extracurricular and enrichment programs available to St. Rose students. They represent a wonderful variety of sports, music, art, science with reasonable time-commitments, affordable participation fees for all ages and skill levels. I hope St. Rose continues to be a great fit for our family because my son loves going to school.
Our three boys LOVE St. Rose of Lima School (Grades 2,3, and 5). They started at St. Rose Preschool. The preschool is a wonderful place for children. When you enter the building, you're greeted with a smile and the children are excited to be there. Full Day Kindergarten prepared them well for 1st grade by teaching them in a fun learning environment. Throughout all the grades, we admire how each year, the teachers communicate with one another to assure that each of our children can learn among their peers. Our teachers are quick to address any of our questions or concerns. They work with us to assure that our children learn at their pace. Above all we love that our children are learning in a faith based environment where students respect each other, the Principal, Priests, and the entire faculty/staff. The Principal an exceptional leader. She is accessible to parents and staff . She addresses parent concerns in a respectful and thoughtful manner and is a true dedicated leader of the school.
By far, the best choice in Newtown. The school community is strong, the atmosphere is welcoming and nurturing. The outstanding teaching staff is lead by the strongest principal in the diocese and the town. I have 3 children at St. Rose and feel blessed to be a part of the family there. So much misconception about teacher qualification requirements in Catholic schools - the teachers are stellar! The PreK is the best the town has to offer. High expectations, but the support in place to get our children there. Academically beyond any of the public schools in the district - students graduating from St. Rose are consistently the highest achievers at the High School level. Wisdom, grace and integrity - priceless.
