This school is 5-star school. It truly is a model of a better way of doing education. My child will be a better person because of this style of teaching. The kids that go to this school have informed parents that know the value of a great education. You have to get on the waiting list, or apply for pre-k lottery. good luck.
You have to experience it to understand it. There is NO better school in CT than this school. From the director, teachers, paraprofessionals, nurse, custodians... they are all superb. The moment you walk into those doors you, and your children feel at home. Part of a BIG community that watches over each other and care for each other. This school is the TRUE model of no child left behind. The integrated program allows those that are behind to catch up, and those that are ahead to strive for more. The children leave that school with the best learning and study habits, independent, self sufficient. As a parent, and preschool teacher, I could not think of a better school and always encourage my pre-school parents to apply for IDCS when their children transition to grade K.
I have a Kindergartener and a 4th grader at IDCS. I think every teacher, aide and faculty knows every kid by name. This school is so amazing. They cater to every childs needs.
My son is in his 7th and final year at IDCS and my daughter in her 4th year. This school is a testament to what can be done by a passionate, dedicated staff and caring and involved parents. This teaching methodology is appropriate for all students, regardless of ability. The classrooms are mixed age and community service is a component of the core curriculum. There is a waiting list to get in, but there seems to be a fair amount of turnover. This school is the flagship for the state charter public school program. Two thumbs up!
I am a student in my last year at the Integrated Day Charter School and I really enjoy attending this school. The lunches are served family style, with mixed seating so that the older students can help out the younger ones, and the curriculum is more individualized than regular schools, therefore, students can't really be 'behind' the class, and the school thrives on parental involvement.
