I am an 8th grade student at osms. This school is not what it is said to be. I do not know how we managed to win the middle school of the year award. All of the 8th grade teachers give the students a good education but the principal is a different story. His ways are of dealing with things are not right.

OSMS has the best academic programs that I have ever seen. We have come from RI and to see what the CT school are doing is so much more. The children have many extracurricular activities to do. There are many clubs for the children to enroll in. The music program is great too. The parents involvement is 100% I believe, you don't see that in RI.. The teachers and staff at OSMS are shining stars in my book.

Old Saybrook High is run like a fine private school, only with more social diversity. On the whole, the academics are first-rate, as is the coaching of most sports. Principal Scott Schoonmaker is an absolute genius at creating an extraordinary environment in which children can grow. The salaries of the teachers are low, which limits the school's ability to recruit more agressively, but many great teachers come and stay for the pure joy of teaching the excited, motivated kids here. Their theater program borders on the professional. They recognize academic as well as athletic achievement -- in fact, many of their academic leaders are athletes, and vice versa. A great town in which to live and send your kids to a fine, safe, motivating school!
