The school's curriculum is outstanding. Their approach to easing first graders into the discipline and rigor of full-day school work is outstanding: well thought-out, caring, gradual and very supportive. The special activities - library, music education, gym, art eduation - are carefully integrated into the academic curriculum. The kindergartan and first grade teachers are excellent. The school has a policy of 're-mixing' classes every year starting from Kindergarten up to 3rd grade. This policy may work well for certain types of students, but for the socially less open kids this could be a bit challenging s they need to get used to a enw group of students each year.

With a shared commitment to educating our children academically and socially from the Principal to the teachers, administrators and parents BMES has a great spirit and is a wonderful place for our kids to learn and explore every day.

I personally think that Barlow is the best K-5 school in Ridgefield. Amazing teachers and administrators, plus the most modern facility of all the lower level schools. Small class size....couldn't ask for more

Barlow is an excellent school, however due to all the horrible things happening to children in schools nationally, BMES has instituted a number of security measures. The leadership and teaching are of a high caliber, although without the personal financial and time committment of parents in their childrens learning process, I don't think that test scores would be even near what they are.
