The Somers HIgh School does not support a student with an LD. My son is unable to express himself in written form. He is verbally eloquent. He has a high IQ.The middle school is not any better. When he entered 6th grade, he was on an IEP. After being in the school for 1 month, his record was reviewed and they felt that he did not need specialized instruction. They removed him from his IEP. Afterwards, he started to fail. He had an independent eval. He was tested at the Yale Center for Dylexia and Learning. Both diagnosed him with Dyslexia. The school reviewed those findings and felt that his scores were to high to qualify him for special ed. The school insists that he was,is, not motivated and that he is lazy. The work that he was producing, or not producing, as well as failing grades, and the Dyslexia diagnosis should have been enough to convince them that he has an LD. Two long years later they finally agreed to put back on an IEP. The school has been unable to implement the IEP and continue to blame my son for incomplete work. He continues to fail. They do not document the data required to measure goals. The ability to follow appropriate procedure is lacking. And on it goes....
Excellent all around school. Teachers are wonderful and class size is better than area high schools. Happy with every aspect of this school!
Excellent Teachers in the Elementary and High School. Administration at Elementary and Middle School is good. Administration at High School shows consistently poor leadership. Superintendent lacks character and has not connected with the community. School thrives on it's excellent teaching staff.
this school has an absolutely terrible administration and the guidance counselors are absolutely useless. many of the teachers could care about nothing more than when the bell rings at 2:15. the education is subpar to other schools in the area. the students are great and the environment is fine but the learning experience and policies of this school are an absolute joke.
I attended this school for almost 3 yrs, and had been in Somers school system for 8 yrs. Anyone attending is very lucky to have the outstanding education offered.
