A wonderful alternative to the public schools. St. Mary's offers great academic preparation and a small, supportive community. Yes, it lacks some modern amenities (i.e. cafeteria, their own gym), but your child will not be allowed to fall through the cracks here. Children are held to a standard of behavior that is no longer allowed in the public school. In short, St. Mary School will help you to raise your child to be a moral, caring person in addition to providing a solid academic grounding. What St. Mary's offers will become especially apparent in the middle school years, when your child's educational experience will be light years ahead of what the public school provides.

The school itself had a good reputation for very long time but some of the teachers don't want to do the job they are getting pay for; the most important thing in this career is make sure kids are getting a good educations, disciplines, and respects that we as parents want for our children. My wife and I sent our son to this school thinking that it would be better than the public schools. All I'm saying is that if you don't want to regret you send your child to this school, don't ever think to send him/her here.

I am a recent graduate of St. Mary School and the staff and teachers are fantastic! Everything is very family oriented, and your child will leave prepared for high school. The teachers are outstanding when it comes to helping an individual child at his or her own pace. As well as recieving a quality education, your child will be learning good morals along the way. The principal is experienced and knows the name of every student in the school. The current principal is the principal I had. The curriculum is challenging and the school all together is a great experience.

I graduated from SMS in the 90s. I was there from K-8 and by graduation my peers and I were a family. It's great reading the other reviews with teachers mentioned. I remember said teachers when they were students. If I made my adult life in Waterbury I would have sent my children to SMS. It's a wonderful small Catholic school. I sincerely hope it does not fall victim to the closures effecting Catholic education like the ones in NYC.

I am a parent who struggled as to where to send my child once she started Pre-K last year. I decided to enroll her at St. Mary's because of the reputation and the fact that my husbands family have a history that dates back to four generations of alumni. My daughter has flourished and her confidence has shown through. She loves to go to school and I feel that part of that is in the quality of education she receives at St. Mary's. I highly recommend for any parent who wants to offer their child the best possible future t consider St. Mary's School.

My son attends kindergarten at St. Mary's. The teachers have been very supportive and I am impressed by the skills he has developed. My interactions with the teachers, the principal and the office staff have been very positive. The most difficulty I have is with the inconsistent bus schedule but that is not the fault of the school. My son is happy and I am pleased.

I love St Mary School, I am a graduate of this excellent school. I have one child who graduated there and another who is still attending. I have found the teachers to be dedicated & caring. My oldest child had ADD,and the teachers went above and beyond to help him be the best he could be. They did this without bringing classmate attention to his 'special 'needs. Thank you St Mary School for providing a good solid Christian foundation and academic excellence to all your students. Keep up the good work!

I graduated from ST. Mary School in 2007. I loved my nine years there, but the only problem was I didn't go to Holy Cross or Sacred Heart. I went to Southington High School. That school has over 2200 students in it. I felt that SMS prepared you for a small high school. We I take tests at SHS the teachers will not give you redos and will not void out tests, because everyone failed. SMS did and even though the teachers did that I still am crazy about the school. I found that from going from SMS and going to SHS was a huge jump, I think SMS can prepare their students for high school by treating them as if they are in high school.

St Mary's School is definitely focused on academics and discipline as they will tell you from the start. Sometimes they are rigid with the rules but that is the philosophy afterall. They are open to fostering a partnership between the faculty, parent and student. You will feel heard. I agree with another reviewer in that they could do more with extra curricular activites but then again this is not new and if you want more in this area you can enroll your child in community activites or send them to a public school, who simply have the reources to do more. They school is all about the student having a positive experience and learning and in my experience their intentions are in the right place. For the most part the faculty is sharp, and interested in making learning a good experience for the children.

SMS has a large enrollment because it is an excellent school. It also has caring, hardworking, and dedicated teachers who have been there for a long time because they are happy teaching in such a wonderful environment. The staff and the principals are the best. The school is very well kept up and clean. They offer many things ...music, art, theater, and sports. My two children are students at SMS and are receiving an excellent education. As far as field trips, my children have been on many field trips although I do not consider field trips to be a priority. SMS is what I consider to be a great school and I highly recommend it to every parent out there.

This school looks good because it has a large enrollment and teachers that have been there forever. They are tired and I belive the quality of teacher student relationship is like a chore for most staff members. Be sure to tour the school. The only benefit was childrens theater. One field trip per year for class, not extra school activities, strong sports only. We had (4) kids there paid (4) tuition's and money isn't an issue, do your research, there is truly much more to be offered elsewhere.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
