We have two children at this school and it is supposed to be in one of the better school districts in CT, but it is getting ridiculous. The kids cannot sit with their friends during lunch because they have assigned seats, and they cannot leave their seats. For example, they have to ask for the garbage can if they want to throw something away, because the lunch crew thinks it is too loud otherwise. They cannot sit where they want on the bus and they cannot bring a friend home on the bus, which the other elementary schools in the district can. They have more or less lost all their independence and the ability to think for themselves. Homework, depends on which teacher you have. Even if the children are in the same grade the homework varies a lot. One would think that the administration would worry about more serious issues than calling my kid into the principal's office because he/she sat too far back in the bus where apparently the older kids have "earned" the right to sit. He told us that there were no other seats available...and honestly a 1st grader would rather not sit with a group of 5th graders if given the choice, but their choice has been taken away.
This school and others in the district have very well prepared students, however, the administration and curriculum don't excel. Pay particular attention to 3rd grade test scores as recent curriculum changes are resulting in year over year declines. Many gifted and talented programs have been dropped as well as extra-curricular activities. It's a good school system that could be much better.
I have three kids in this school and I'm extremely happy. The school ranking is high but it doesn't do justice to the actual benefit of the program. The key to success is the high level of parent involvement. My only complaint is that we've had three Principals in three years. I'd like to see more continuity.
I think this is very good system school principal and teacher's work team very stronger and parent's suport lot activities too. The down education of our children very attendding and board of education team work superintendent for parent's too. I thought that topwork team for our studen's very well.
