Great if you have a gifted or child with special needs. There is a great broad middle though that is falling between the cracks. If your not a pushy parent you'd better become one if you or your child wants to be heard.

Bedford is an exceptional school with an amazing variety of activities and resources for middle schoolers. The overall quality of teachers is quite high, and they work together in "pods" so younger teachers are working side by side with more experienced teachers. Core class are solid. Other programs (Music, Language, etc) are excellent.

Bedford is absolutely a good to great school. The staff are generally knowledgeable, with some exceptions, and care about the students. The gifted program has an amazing teacher in Kerstin Warner and the history department is especially good under the leadership of Lynn Washington, who is also a brilliant teacher. The music programs are fantastic, and the chamber orchestra and jazz band are filled with opportunities and gifted musicians. The play provides a great opportunity and is at a very high level. While gifted students will not be challenged in all of the classes, the staff certainly make an effort to work with students to challenge them. I absolutely recommend this school.

As an eighth grade student at Bedford Middle, I greatly enjoy the academic opportunities offered as far as the classes (class size is excellent-14-24 students- despite the large grade) and helpful teachers. The 'pod' system works very well to create a strong team atmosphere and group support. This class arrangement breakes the large grade into smaller teams of 80 or so children. The teachers work with us as a whole to prevent bullying and if there is a problem they try their hardest to work it out as soon as possible. The three years I have spent here have been positive and educational. The 'mean girl' issue which another review had addressed is one that occurs in all schools, public and private, large or small. Bedford has dealt with any issues in a timely and appropriate fashion, making sure no one is feeling stressed about their environment.

The quality of the educational programs are top notch, comparable to a private school our daughter attended previously. The physical plant is superior as well. The teachers are excellent. My complaint is that it is a large school and that the daily schedule changes every day of the week. Also, the administration does little to address 'mean girl' problems, relational bullying which is widespread at the school. That issue alone makes the school unsafe and stressful for many children. If we had it to do over again, we would not send her to this school for that reason alone. At a certain point if the environment is too stressful, the kids stop learning no matter how good the teaching is.

BMS has a great teaching staff that really gets into my head when they are teaching a lesson. They have a school play which is lots of fun for every one. Their are inturmerals with the great P.E. Teachers compeditive to uncompeditive it's great to see every one get along while they learn a knew things and stay in shape. The parents get so involved in the pta I see them all the time at school. They can orginize speacial meetings with the principals or any of the teachers just to see how their child is doing. And it has an all around good enviroment for learning getting to know eachother and learning lifelessons every step of the way! I love BMS! It is the greatest school ever!
