I'm waiting to see what innovations will be introduced this year. Also, will school enrollment be higher?
They need more activities. Some towns offer programs called Sports clubs , running clubs etc.. I wish Wakelee would try this. Student of the month is the same kids rotated every few months. Needs more communication with parents and a better website.
Waklee School is a very active and progressive school. The teachers are interested in the students and the students are very happy to learn.
The school needs some updating. The newer and much larger elementary school in town makes Wakelee seem poor by comparison despite the many excellent teachers it has. The school is not disability friendly when it comes to the students. My child has a disability and their needs are not met so that my child may grow into a productive member of socity. As long as the child's grades are good the school accepts no responsibility for the child otherwise. My childs disability was (and still is) doubted even with a doctor's diagnosis and substantial backup paperwork provided. There is a total lack of experience with certain disabilities which hurts these children. Bullying is not dealt with properly. My child has been the victim many times (due to their disability) and the bullies have not, in my opinion, been given strict enough discipline. They need to take the bullying more seriously.
I like that school but it could use a few improvements. The new principal is better than the old one in my opinion. The colors or blue and yellowgold and the gym is big and colorful. It's clean and bright. They have 2 playgrounds and a lot to play in.
This school has excellent teachers! Good job!
The school has it's advantages but a lot of disadvantages. They need to revamp their system when it comes to child of the month. Also they need to start focusing on the positive of children and remember that they are still children. Parent involvement is not welcomed if it is against what the principle believes in. The school could benefit from increased communication with the parents.
I like Wakelee, I really do -This school is bright & clean. They tackle subjects such as Reading, head on! Extracurricular activities are limited. Classrm. placement occurs once a year, and school is in need of a newly reformed panel. To much with who gets who & w/ who wants to be w/who New parents needed desperately that wish to be involved . School has positive aspects , but needs improvement with all new parents involved, reforming panel of placement, reform committees in PTO, working better w/parents, listening to parents & child's needs. School has room to improve Student of the month , it needs to reach every child, not the same ones, year after year. Acknowledge good in every child. Special gifted programs need to reach not just 4th and 5th G. level, Reach out to Parents and see how they feel, Mass survey & really listen !
No Complaints. It was a good school when I went there.... and it's better now. Good Job Mr. Cook!
