Profile Completeness

HONOR ROLL

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

We just returned from Disney and my kids couldn't wait to go back to school. That is the best compliment available for the school and staff!

Working at this school is the best! I came from another school a couple of years ago and have never felt more welcome than when I came here. There is such a great sense of community here between staff and students. The teachers truly care about the success of the students at this school and push them to do their very best. We are Wilbur and We are Inspired!

As a teacher at Wilbur, I have never felt so inspired to grow as an educator, to help inspire our students for excellence! Wilbur is truly one of a kind. The administration has built a positive community for student, staff and families to experience day in and day out. From the early morning motivational welcomes to the 'pat on the back' at the end of the day, the atmosphere at this school is remarkable! When deciding where to send your child next year, ask yourself, do you want your child to feel inspired each and everyday?

Wilbur has the hardest working staff and students in the world! The teachers love what they do, and it shows in the success of their students! Children at this school are genuinely loved and cared for, and are pushed to the limits to be the best that they can be because the teachers and staff here believe that they can and will grow up to do great things. The lessons taught are engaging and relevant to real-world skills. The students are taught to become problem-solvers and as independent as possible from a young age in order to be in charge of their learning. The students at this school are blessed to have a wonderful education from some of the best teachers in the state of Delaware. Wilbur is an inspiring place to be.

The staff have impressed me for the past 6 years that my children have been in this school. They are always willing to try new, innovative ways to teach. They also understand that every child learns in a different manner and they teach to the cold. We've had about a dozen different teachers during this time and they were all great. In this school, finding a bad teacher is hard.

My children have gone to Wilbur since Kindergarten. They are now in 5th grade. I can't say enought good about this school and how wonderful the teachers and staff have always been to our children. Ms. Howell is an excellent role model as the Principal and leads by example. My children have been blessed to have teachers that care about them and students and as children. They are challenged and supported at the same time in a safe and creative learning environment. This school should be help up as an example of success and caring for all schools, public & private, to emulate. Truly could not have asked for more for my children.

Wilbur Elementary is a school that I can truly say that I am proud to work at. The teachers go above and beyond, on a daily basis, to make sure each child reaches their fullest capabilities. We provide interventions for struggling students and extend thinking and push students on and above grade level. The students enjoy coming to school to learn and the parents love coming in to see all the wonderful activities going on in the classrooms. We truly are a family!

I absolutely love my new place of employment...Wilbur, perfectly located in the Colonial School District... It has felt like home from day one and I have been treated as if I 've been here for many years! I look forward to working each day and love working with the students, staff and the very supportive administrators. I came from a place whose motto is "A great place to work." Wilbur is the best example of "A Great Place to Work!!!"

My granddaughter really like her school. This is her second year at Wilber. She was really glad th no longer be attending her previous school. This school has great security and the staff all seem to enjoy their job. They really focus on the children's needs.

My daughter just started at this school this year, in 1st grade. We have had an awesome experience all the way around. The teach is fantastic, communicates weekly and immediately responds to e-mails and folder communication. The principle sets the tone for the teachers and students to follow and it appears to be working. Great school, positive attitudes, excellent PTA.

As a parent of three kids at this school, I am extremely disappointed. The class time teaching is ineffective for the older kids who come home unprepared to complete assignments that were sent home b/c they ran out of class teaching time. The "specials" are a joke as the kids spend most of the time being reprimanded for not remaining quiet. No vocabulary or spelling tests. Science & Social Studies are on a sometime rotation. Younger kids get silly packets sent home on Monday to finish by Friday that is capable of completion in 1hour sitting. The reports cards offer no constructive assistance only scripted comments like "participates" and "listens". Teacher responses to parents are slow..two days and even up to a week. Of course there are a few exceptions like "Mr. X" updates class webpage weekly with classroom activities. Overall: uninterested, uninspiring and callous teaching staff.
