We placed our child at DABM through school choice and could not be happier. A lot is expected from the kids and they consistently rise to the challenge. The administration is very professional and kind, and it is evident that they enjoy what they do. The faculty is outstanding. Our child is thriving, and actually applying what is taught. The student body is diverse and congenial.
We school choiced both of our children to ABM due to smaller class sizes, and reputation of the school. We have been very happy with our decision. The school relies heavily on the state online system for reporting grades (etc) , but they also contact parents via email and with phone calls if needed. Teachers call parents promptly to respond to any concerns. Daily assignments are posted through the classroom voicemail. The teachers have high expectations and students learn to be responsible. Overall standardized test scores are excellent. We sent our children to AB for another reason- sports. Students do not have to try out for teams, and they get to play (although football, softball and field hockey teams have not won a single game in years!) Students are taught to love the game, not the win. Students have positive attitudes even when losing. This says a lot about the values and tenacious attitude taught. As our daughter headed to high school, we found that she and her middle school classmates were far ahead in academics, and were not afraid to try new things. We have been very pleased with ABM and feel we could not have made a better choice for our children!
Oh And Im A 8th Grader And Ive Been Here Since 6th Grade Its Soooo Great Learning Here, And Most Of The Teachers Here Make It Really Fun To Learn. So Your Child Wont Be Bored Or Sleeping In Class :D
We school-choiced our children DABM, thinking the military base atmosphere and smaller classrooms would be a benefit. Because of district crowding, the classes are no smaller than the other two district middle schools. The extra-curricular activites aren't that great, as the school is so much smaller overall than the other two. I was disappointed to find out that the other two middle schools, in addition to the local charter schools, are participating in Odyssey of the Mind, as well as an advanced reading program at University of Delaware. This is not even offered at DABM. They do rely heavily on the internet and parent involvement as there are not enough books. I found & ordered the science books on ebay b/c we were struggling w/o them. The library is staffed with a media teacher and the curriculum is technologically heavy, re: powerpoint presentations, creating pamphlets, etc.
This school utilizes the internet way too much and does not have enough school books for each child to bring one home. The teachers get paid our tax money but they won't take extra time for helping students and instead depend on the internet or a parent who hasn't done this work in 18 years or more to teach our children. I don't allow internet use in my home..it's dangerous and not the computer's job to teach my kids. I should not have to stand over them when they should have already learned the info in school. Or at the library which closes too early. My children constantly get bullied by other students and nothing is done. This school is completely unorganized and have notified me the third time my child has been in trouble but never told me the first 2 times so maybe I could have prevented another.
We are the best middle school in the state of Delaware exceeding state standards with flying colors. And to top off everything we have the 2 best english curriculum with the number one science curriculum with our middle school scoring higher than high schoolers on the Delawares student testing program or state test.
i am a student at dabm and i think its a really good school to place you kids at!
I can only recommend this school to parents who genuinely want to ensure that their children are held to the highest standards for behavior as well as academics. The entire STAFF invests themselves in training the students. DAFB Middle School has a SUPERLATIVE IEP team to equip students with
This is a good school with a great amount of parent involvement. They have a lot of extracurricular activities. The one drawback is the teachers seem to teach to the state test versus educational objectives.
I'm not a parent but I am a student in Dover Air Base Middle and I love it! Our school is #1 in Science in the state and #2 in math. If you are thinking of placing your child in this school don't hesitate, we truely are a SUPERIOR SCHOOL!
This school is absolutely awesome. The teachers spend quality time with students and the principal has a complete understanding of dealing with middle schoolers and their parents. A wonderful woman! Music, art sports and other extracurricular activities are offered and encouraged. Parents are involved at every level and area of their childs education with a wonderful support team from the school.
