This school has a lot to offer academically and many extracurricular activities. Academically I have seen growth in my children and they are excited to learn. There are many opportunities for parents to volunteer and be as involved as they would like to be, during school days or at after school events. The majority of the teachers at the school are great and and you can tell they enjoy teaching. If you email or call the teachers or school they do respond quickly. The school nurse is competent, friendly and an excellent communicator. The only negative has been the schools lack of experience dealing with divorced parents and custody issues. Examples being teachers emailing all classroom information directly to non parents or legal guardians, (i.e. a girlfriend or boyfriend of a parent) even after one parent request to only share or communicate child's school information with the mom & dad. Allowing a parent to pickup child from school when that parent doesn't have custody of the child. As more and more parents are divorced I think some education for the staff on how to handle these issues effectively would be greatly appreciated. Overall this is a great school and my children seem to have a lot of positive experiences here.
My children attended this school. I have one that had an IEP and is now on a 504 plan and compared to our previous school NSE staff and teacher have been incredibly supportive and helpful. The school is full of wonderful teachers. We have only had one teacher who wasn't the best fit for one of our children however, I think that will happen to all children at least once during their academic careers. The teachers do an excellent job of making sure the work fits the child, with a classroom full of different abilities this is truly an impressive feat. The only negative is the front office can feel a bit unwelcoming as there are many rules for parents to follow when volunteering at the school. The rules are to keep the school running well and the children safe but it can definitely make parents feel a bit uncomfortable/unwanted. Overall we love this school and I am sure my children could fill a page or two about their wonderful experiences. I'll end with the new outdoor classroom is amazing!
North Star continues to shine as a school community filled with both heart and talent. Teachers advocate for each child's success, they believe in each child's potential, and they value each student for their unique strengths and personalities. Building administration is welcoming, positive, and responsive to concerns. Parents pride themselves on being truly involved partners in their children's education. This school is in a class all its own!
I have had a terrible time with this school. The teachers who assist with the after school car line are consistently rude and disrespectful to parents. Additionally, they give confusing inconsistent direction from day to day. The main office has also provided me with inaccurate information on several occasions. My experience with this school has been a major disappointment. .
Relative to other elementary schools in the district, North Star is top notch. I believe this has a lot to do with their amazing PTA and overall parental involvement. Through their fundraising efforts, resources and volunteers, they're able to fund extracurricular activities and supplies for the school and individual classrooms. The foster a wonderful sense of community and school spirit.
NSE is the best school ever. Our daughter is in 3rd grade and she loves her teacher and her classmates... The parent involvement is amazing where some schools have to beg parents to volunteer NSE has to schedule parent involvement for school trips because everyone wants to go.. Our children are very lucky to learn in such amazing environment.
