The first year my daughter attended John G. Leach, she had to be removed from her class and placed in another class due to the extreme anxiety and stress she'd shown after class each day. Once she was placed in a different class, she was an entirely different person. She was calm, content, and progressive at the end of each school day. Clearly, she was being mistreated in some way in the first classroom. Fast forward a year later and recently, a Big Lots store clerk let the school know that during a trip to the store, my daughter's teacher hit my daughter in the head. That afternoon when I picked my daughter up, I noticed she was behaving strangely. Very quiet and unenthused. I asked how was her day and nobody told me about the incident in Big Lots. Instead, I wasn't notified about it until the next day. I took my daughter to the hospital and she suffered a mild concussion. I removed her from the school and I'm in the process of pressing charges. However, the teacher that hit my special needs child in the head is still working in the classroom with children. She has not been reprimanded at all. I think the parents should at least be made aware that this teacher did this. Disgrace.

This school is devoted to the education as well as love of students with special needs in our area. The teachers and para professionals go above and beyond their duties on a daily basis with these students. The students who attend this school usually have a shortened life ecpectancy, and require continued care from nurses while they are attending school. The teachers and para professionals strive to make sure that the students are not only having fun learning but are doing so in complete comfort and happiness.

My son has attended John G. Leach thru the friends program (typical peer) since his enrollment he has shown tremendous improvement in his speech as well as his social skills. His teacher guides him in the direction of learning to read, write but I was most impressed when he came home told me that he wanted to teach me sign language. My 4yr old son is able to communicate with the hearing impaired with out any assistance, as a parent we don't think about teaching our children a second language and I know in the environment today this will benefit him in life.

Oops! We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Public and charter school test scores for most states come from the state Department of Education. The most common reasons we might not have this data are either that not enough students took the test or that the school was recently opened, and its scores have not yet been reported.
