Our children have both attended Seaford School District from K-12. Both were accepted to some of the top universities in the country as were many of their freinds. There are recent alumni attending and having great success at Stanford, The Naval Academy, Wake Forrest, Penn State, Clemson, LSU, Auburn, Towson and University of Delaware. While some students may struggle and have discipline issues as many of these post reflect, there are many great staff and students succeeding every day. As with any public school, some want the education while some do not. This is the reality and most of those who blame the school for the failure of their student are just making excuses instead of holding them accountable. Seaford is a great commmunity and a wonderful place to raise a family. We are very fortunate to have so many opportunities for our children in a relatively small school, from language immersion to new tech, AP and IB courses and many extracurricular clubs and sports.
Very unhappy with Seaford School District!!!!!!! Just read the review from the children attending and defending the school. They cant even spell. Its a shame!
I live in Seaford. My child is 5 years old and I have opted to send him to private school after observing the seaford Elementary school he was to attend. I wasn't at all pleased with the attitudes of the students and the many discipline problems. If they act that poorly at the elem. level I'm afraid to see what they are like in high school. After reading the other reviews here, Seaford HS's only hope is for the New Tech program beginning this year to work as well as they boast it will be. Only then would I consider sending my child to high school there.
this school is terrible. i really do not recommend it. my child got bullied so may times in school we took the office about 10 times and nothing was done. it got to the point where i had to take my child out.
new administration and down the line need to either step up tot he plate and be there for the students or get out oif the profession. I am really tired of hearing our students know more about their teacher's personal lives than they do about their studies. I hear how there is no discipline an how others can say what ever words they want to other students without the teahers even stepping in to correct the vulgar language and talk.
Seaford is going through a lot of changes in their faculty and administration. Many of the better, more experienced teachers have retired in the past few years, so many of the teachers are young or have not been teaching for very long. The teachers are not always highly qualified and are unhelpful because they don't care. This is not saying that there are not any good teachers, just that they are not as numerous as in the past. The principal is not the best man for the job and many students have very little respect for him. People seem to be giving up on Seaford High School and automatically sending their kids to other schools, instead of getting involved and helping. Seaford has good AP/Honors programs, good athletics/clubs and also a good special needs program. Seaford is just not being run well and has declined over the years.
Going into SHS and now a senior..i beleive this school has turned around a lot. I know just about everyone in the school, students, teachers, and everyone else traving around. The administration is young at the H.S. I agree but with 2 of them being from here or a while and Mr.Douglas being from Laurel has a understanding how things are run around here. As a senior, im proud to say im graduating from Seaford High School. I think it was the right choice for me. You can only make high school an awesome experince but getting out of it what you put in. In 9 months the class of 2008 will be walking out of those doors the proudest we've ever bee.
I feel very comfortable with my child attending SHS. They have made many changes over the years that I think are helpful to our children. Some people are still caught up in the old days of DuPont here in Seaford. It is time for a change and I believe Seaford is moving in the right direction. The numbers may be down, but as they say, 'Quality before Quantity.'
I am a graduate of this high school and I have been working here for 20+ years. I had several children and now grandchildren going through this district. I am here to tell you, with first hand knowledge and experience, this is an awesome school. Many administrators and teachers are working very hard to make this a positive experience for those who WANT an education. I have seen a serious decline in the attitude of students coming here over the past 20 years. PARENTS need to make sure their children are ready for school, are disciplined and PARENTS need to make education more of a priority at home.
I am a parent of three children attending Seaford School District. One in the middle school and two in the high school. I think both schools are pathetic. The decisions being made by our so called 'profesional staff' are unethical and immoral. I am doing all I can do to see to it that my children are placed in a district that I feel are qualified to meet the demands of the educational process. We place our children in the hands of these people, day in and day out, but if these people are not making sounds decisions we are defeating the purpose of sending them. Teachers should colaborate more with the parents before making hasty decisons and or prior to the child obtaining a 6% for semester. Parents do have that right. Sorry Seaford Middle School and High School employees, the job simply isnt getting done.
As a junor at SHS, I honestly cannot wait to leave this pathetic excuse for a school. The English skills of my fellow students are downright appalling. The art program has been cut, and this district spends more money on computers than actually rennovating the school to make it tolerable. Many of the students severely hate the school, and if we had the choice to go to another, we would. To basically sum this up, Seaford needs to get their act together. Terribly. terrible academic skills. Is that part of 'being a teen?'
I cannot believe how people are accusing SHS. I am a sophmore student that right now is talking directly talking from the classroom. The academic of this school is a little poor I admit, yet the teacher's do not give up. I personally think they give too many referrals and that in an honest opinion, the acadmic probation is a piece of junk, but I am catching myself off guard. The school is not terrible, I should start focusing more in class and yes, to the person who stated their child was ADHD, believe it or not, I am too so therefore the school is not as poor as you explain it be from one ADHD diagnosed student to another ADHD diagnosed student's parent. There is cliques, and yes, there is even fights, but its a part of being a teen. In conclusion, SHS is not at all as bad as some make it seem.
I am a senior at Seaford Senior High School this year. Before I attended the high school, I had heard incredibly bad things about how many fights, threats, and other negative actions happened in there. I was almost scared to go. I'm really glad that I went to Seaford, because it is not a bad school at all! The teachers do care, and the students all get along for the most part. There still are 'cliques,' but it's such a small school that almost everyone knows everyone else. Its just a really friendly little high school, and I've learned a lot from there.
I am a parent of a middle school student and a teacher at SHS. I have seen SHS fall apart over the years! The extra curriculum is slowly being cut. They keep cutting teachers to the point that there is very few courses left for the students to for extra credits. The Administration seems to think that release time is the solution to the problem for students who need classes. The disclpline here is a joke and many of the students are disrepectful and adults are allowed to be so-they refere to their principle as 'Smitty' and he does not correct them. I am doing everything in my power to see that my child does not have to go here!
I think Seaford School District has deteriorated terribly and teachers and administration is not interested in teaching these children the fundamentals, such as reading, writing and math. The majority of the graduates from Seaford School District cannot spell well, cannot read well, nor can they calculate figures without having to use a calculator! My son's learning disability needs went ignored for seven years until I provided adminstration with two letters of diagnosis that my son has ADHD and then my son received the proper testing and education accomodations by the school district. My step son suffered from the same issues, and it was like pulling teeth to get anyone to acknowledge his learning disability. It doesn't say a whole lot for the school meeting the needs of the children. This school district is 'sliding' kids through so they can collect their tax dollars each year. It's disgusting.
I am not a parent... I go to Seaford High School! Its the greatist.... whats up to my teachers from last year! Talk to you all later... if you live in sussex county definitely place your student here! Seaford is a wonderful school. :)
