We had problems with teachers and the principal retuning e-mails. When my child had trouble in math we found the teacher was willing to complain to us but not willing to listen or respond to us when we talked to her. We asked another of my childs teachers to not give her candy but was ignored. It also seemed that the teachers taught the DCAS test and put a great deal of pressure on students to do very well instead of trying their best. I admit, the school was overcrowded. The district is building a new school to relive this problem. After the superior experience that we had with our child's elementry school, this school was a serious disappointment.

This school is wonderful! We moved here from Louisiana and of course our child was a little behind the other students, but he caught up with the help of his teachers. The sixth grade offers extra help after school for the students who need it and that was a big help to us. Extracurricular activities are great and the classes go on excellent field trips. The teachers keep the parents updated on the student's progress either through e-mail, phone, or through conferences.

About the tests

In 2008-2009 Delaware used the Delaware Student Testing Program (DSTP) to test students in reading and math in grades 2 through 10, in writing in grades 3 through 10, and in science and social studies in grades 4, 6, 8 and 11. The scores for social studies in grades 4 and 6 are not shown on GreatSchools profiles. The DSTP is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Delaware. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
