Brandywine High School

My daughter, who is a hard worker and a senior this year, has achieved a lot at this school in 4 years. Most of the AP classes are excellent otherwise she would not have been able to score all 5's and one 4 on her AP exams. The teachers, including those who don't teach AP classes, are mostly very good. There are many students in her graduating class and in those ahead of her who have been accepted at excellent colleges including the Ivy Leagues. BHS has had 3 different principals in 4 years and has been through a lot of changes, but thanks to many dedicated staff, the school remains of high quality- I thank them. The future is looking brighter at BHS- one reason is that a larger proportion of high caliber students are likely attend BHS starting next year (due to a recent, more equitable policy in the district "School Choice" program.) I have 2 more children who will be attending BHS who may not track with the honors and AP classes. I am aware that their experience may be different and that we will have to be paying close attention to make sure they do not get "lost in the middle."

I have a new foster child who started at Brandywine this year. We were concerned that after an evaluation of previous schools she would not be a Senior. After meeting with counselors they provided her with options of becoming Senior as of January this year. Yes, she had to keep her nose to the grind stone but she agreed she could do it. With the post trauma this child is having the school went out their way to make her comfortable dealing with the anxietys of starting a new school. With help from counselors she seems to be adjusting more than expectedHer grades started off with mostly 'D's'. Now, with help from the school she has a 'B' average. Beleave me this was an accomplishment that was beyond our expectations considering all the trauma. This school is the best. Could not have done it without Brandywines dedication to education and safety.

I'm currently a sophomore to graduate in the class of 2010. Although I typically find Brandywine just run-of-the-mill, that must be simply because I have nothing better to compare it to. Brandywine High School is, however, an outstanding school that I feel is definitely preparing me for the real world and my education beyond my high schooling experience. They have a great level of extracurricular activities offered, and teachers are almost always willing to go the extra mile for their students. Brandywine High School is an excellent learning environment and even if we aren't perfect, we're one of the best in Delaware.

My son had a choice, he could remain in the competitive IB program or go to the very competitive Charter School for his high-school years. He chose our feeder school, Brandywine High School. No, not because he wanted to stay with friends because he was never tracked with our feeder school. In Middle School he was in the IB program and Elementary School he was in the gifted program. Brandywine HS offered the best choice for a student who was both looking for high academic challenges and opportunities to develop his musical talents. He is an all-state chorus chair and participates in Marching Band, Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Chorus, and Barbershop quartet as well as the school musicals and has had the opportunity to create a film club and 2 AP courses. I must assert, wholeheartedly that Brandywine is will above average as far as public schools go.

Academically, i love the school. there's a wide range of subjects to choose from. from the core curricular program to electives like forensic science. But, the only problem is the people who go to the school. there are too many scuffles between students, and the administration isn't forcing the concequences very well.

This school is great. I graduated from this school in 1998. It's very down to earth. The teacher's are there to make a living, but also earn every bit of that living. They care. The activities always kept us busy even back in the late 90's. Always great things to do in that school, always keep you busy, and off peer pressure.

Academically I believe this school is one of the best in the state. There is also a great deal of extracurricular activities.

I came to Brandywine from William Penn in 2004. At first i missed my old school because i was around people i knew from age 10. Socially Penn is so much better, but Brandywine is a better school academicaly. Even though i will graduate from brandywine in 06 no school could possibly be better.
