i dislike uniforms so much but i want to know what you all think! so uniforms vs free dress!!!!!!

Hello! This is too you reply about school uniforms. I thinks school uniforms are great. I believe that some parents (not you) make a big deal about the wrong thing. School uniforms have been around for several years and will be around for a long time. In the past it was the rich and private school scholars who wore the school uniforms, to set them apart from the others. However, as a person who volunteers in a school,I see the school uniforms from a different viewpoint. I see them as equalzier for the scholars. Not focusing on the haves and the have nots! I see unity all cross the school, not sagging and bagging pants. I see future leaders moving about in our schools. Because of the dress code being out of hand in many schools and parents not watching or caring what their children wear to school, school officals have to step in and place some form of order with regard to the school attire. All professional sports team that I know of all wear uniforms, and what happens is that the uniforms helps to build syngery amongst the team members. That is why school are trying to do along with regulating the dress. When I was in school many years ago, we dressed very well even though we were considered disadvantage children. We wore suits, combed our hair, used manners, was honor roll scholars. And I must say it has paid off. I can converse with any CEO, USA President and more. Every leader in our community I can discuss issues with them that are revelant to our community and do it with respect. I just recently, sat down with a person who may be working in the White House. And what I wanted to know if they get in can I bring the children from my school? And yes those that would be in attendance would all be in school uniforms. We must all remember that all professions wear a uniform; doctors, lawyers, bankers, sport player, and more. I like when we all (in my community) school clothes and then changed into our play clothes, and had church clothes and special occasion clothes. My mother later divorced with eight children, but we were always cleaned, respectable and had many changes of clothes and graduate with honors. In closing school uniforms can be a blessing to some in the way of saving money and a burden to some parents because they have put themselves into the place of the child talking about what they don't want or dislike. Please, search the internet for schoo around the world and you will see that many of them in place like Japan, Mexico, China, and more.... all wear school uniforms,and that is who our children will be competing with, not just the USA scholars, but the world! I wear uniforms to work every day for 30 yrs.I am still wearing my uniforms,I have no dispute on this topic because it sure helps me when I wash clothes,but I don't think kids should be made to wear them at school if they don't want too.the kids have plenty time to wear uniforms when they get out of school.let kids be kids in elem.now in middle school I think it would be a great ideal because kids pick on other kids clothes when they can't afford name brand clothes,and it's harder for kids to study and do their work at school.high school students should free dress but have some standards.42215

I like uniforms. it may seem more expensive but actually it is not versus a child wanting name brand everything that someone else has. Everyone has the same navy blue pants and white shirts. My child's school is so strict if they have no belt on we are called to bring a belt. If their name badge is not worn they sit at another table with other "forgotten name badge kids" The only thing I do not like is during cold seasons your childs jacket has to be blue,red,or white and it can not be worned inside the building.It gets hard finding those colors sometime.42216

I agree with students wearing uniforms. As a parent it's much easier and as a teacher I feel kids don't feel like their parents must get them the latest in fashion. Some parents may not be able to afford some of the latest fashions so students don't feel like they are competing to fit in and dress a certain way with the latest fads.42217

Overall, I think it's easier for everyone to have uniforms and keeps kids from getting into "branding", at least at school. (And you can't tell me uniforms are more expensive than regular clothes with a straight face -- please!) Uniforms also put everyone on a bit more of an even playing field. Where i have a problem is with all the cheap uniform clothing that has all that non-wrinkle, non stain chemical additives. I scoured several stores to come up with all cotton polo shirts and pants for my son, because I don't like all those chemicals added to clothing. Beyond that, I do wonder why the teachers don't also wear a uniform, to reinforce the idea that uniforms are ok. At least my son's teacher last year dressed professionally every day, which is more than I can say for a lot of teachers, who come to work in jeans and flip flops and nose peircings. Sets a terrible example! Finally, I'd love to see the uniforms extend into middle school in my area....wouldn't that take a lot of peer pressure off the kids! (But make at least one day a week free dress day, within a certain standard, so the little darlings wouldn't feel too repressed!)42218

I was at first for uniforms but now No Way!! My little one has been in uniforms from day one. She is going to a new school this year where they can dress in street clothes... She can not stand to go shopping even to find weekend clothes.. When she started her day she didn't have to think about what to wear. I thought this was great, get up... put on yellow pullover... navy pant and ready to go....But now I am hoping she developes some sort of fashion for clothes that are of other colors...As far as the cost on the uniforms. We had to purchase our uniforms from one place Parker Uniforms and no where else. She would get a note sent home if there was any sort of violation in the uniform. White tennis shoes...You make sure you don't put the wrong shoes on them when they are toddlers and then they have to wear the same white shoes day in and day out...Sometimes a ticket $3:00 was issued. We would get so upset with the fact that it appeared that they cared not about education but to much on dress code. If you do go to a school that the uniform is a way of life make sure you have a choice where you can buy them. Paying $30 for a pullover and $38 for pants she couldn't wear nexted year, that is a bit to much...Thank goodness she doesn't like jumpers or skorts, the jumpers went for $48. I do have to say that her teachers also had to wear the uniforms...It makes it easier for the parents whose kids didn't like them. One of the parents had said that there should be one day a week the kids could wear something else...Well at our old school the kids could if they paid a fee to do so and that was only for jeans and the jeans couldn't have anything on them, only 5 pocket ones where aloud...So to answer the question of liking or disliking uniforms, my vote is NO!!!42220

Perhaps YOUR kids hate them. Certainly not all kids do. And those kids that hate them generally have not had to wear them. Also, if parents are against uniforms (like anything else), their kids are more likely to "hate" them too.
If parents treat them as a matter of fact, even kids that hate the idea of them come around with the reality of everyone wearing one, it becomes a non-issue.42222

You know we could go on till the end of time with this discussion...I think it is important that the parents teach whats important...A Hannah Montana tee or a nice shirt. You will ALWAYS have peer pressure in school. I volunteer all the time at my childs school. With uniforms you have it, just in a different way. The new crisp shirt or a hand me down from other kids... Children are smart...They can tell who can get the new stuff and who doesn't High water pants, sleeves too short We will still have peer pressure, you have it among kids and adults just look around...42223
