Type in the zip code, and search for schools in your area. You'll be able to read parent reviews and compare school ratings.
As for neighborhoods, a great place to start is with a real estate professional. It's in a real estate pro's best interest to be knowledgeable about the area and to know the amenities that families seek out--from schools, to parks, and shopping, housing developments, apartments and more. Even if you plan to rent, they're available to help you.
