My daughter is in 1st grade and is having a difficult time reading. Does anyone have any tips to help? My Mom, Husband and I all read to her, but when she doesn't know a word, she just shuts down and doesn't want to read any more. This is very frustating for all of us. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate them. Thanks
Not sure if this will help , but does she know her ABC's? Does she know the sounds of each letter?, my son has been able to read since preK, however, it took lots of patience and practice, first we got him a Leap frog speaking alphabet game that really helped, its like magnetic and gives the letters name and phonetic sound and the goes as far as saying a word that uses the letter A, A sounds like Ah, a is for Apple, this really helped him going as he memorized the sounds and letters, then I proceeded to purchase the leapfrog explorer (not the tablet looking one) more like the game boy one I believe is better since it uses controllers and joy pad. And went ahead and purchased more alphabet games and progressively more intense games, is my son perfect not by all means but he can read most things signs and billboards, got to make it fun, I purchased flash cards from EBAY, that has lots of 3 letter words and go from there. hope this helps and can point you in the right direction.80887
Maybe your daughter should start with vocabulary, the foundation of reading :). Recommend you this site beestar for vacobulary and reading. We have been using it for years. It is curriculum-based from 1st grade to 8th grade and offers weekly worksheets full of vivid pictures and interesting stories. DD loves it. Lisa81059
