Many families living in Neighboring counties have a 'less than' view of Orange County schools as a whole. However, as an employee of one of these neighboring counties with a child at AHS, I must say, my views stand to be corrected! I am impressed! As an earlier post said, calls & emails are returned quickly ... The rule of thumb being ASK and you shall receive. If you are not a parent who takes initiative, don't be surprised if you never hear from your child's teacher(s) except through report cards, progress reports and Progress Book (which, by the way is a MUST for all parents)! An earlier post referenced the gifted program .... Don't assume there is one as the days in elementary or middle school. At the high school level, there is a bit of a twist of which you should inquire. We will be leaving AHS, but go with confidence that it really is an excellent place to learn IF your child self advocates and YOU stay informed! Effective leadership & excellent & timely communication - be sure to sign up for email communications & join PTA and SAC!

Both my children loved being at Apopka High School. They were active in sports, clubs and music programs. It is great to see the school information in the weekly paper. Alumni news, student news and articles by staff and the school board member are fun ways to keep up with the school.

our child goes to Apopka HS. It's OK. Nothing to write home about. If you need someone to get back to you, it won't happen fast, you may have to wait a week.

Im a student at Apk high. I was sooo happy to see my new school on open house day. I think that the old campus didnt give our school justice. The freshman campus was horrible and dirty and so was the main campus. I've met my teachers and i like them very much. I think this year will be great.

My daughter was a Junior this year and goes to AHS and I'm satisfied with the education that she is receiving, she is a straight A's student. Her teachers are great and they push the students to do their best and to prove themselves that they can do better and that they have the potential to succeed. She is looking forward to have her best year now that she is a Senior.

While I'm glad to know that Apopka is getting a new school, I'm still not pleased with the fact that a lot of things are still not changing. The staff needs to lighten up and be more polite to students. It bugs me when I get a frown and a snappy, 'what' from an adult. Also, discipline. Its such a dangerous word but yet it keeps schools running. So far, Apopka has yet to show me what that word means. Students are way out of control and I'm getting tired of having to push my way through the hallway and get a headache from a students whose excuse to get angry at the teacher is poor.

Needs more academic excitement and critical thinking in classes. Quality of teachers should be assured by doing more to reward good teachers and keep them motivated and content with the difficult job they have. Students need to be engaged in great activities.

I just graduated from Apopka High! I noticed some of the other posts on here and thought I would comment! We Are now abled to wear shorts what ever day we want as long as it extends past your fingertips when held at your side. Apopka has a great magnet program and in order for you to get the best out of a teacher you need to give the best you have and be open minded. There is always something on campus that intrigues some part of eveery person each year. From football games, concerts and Student elections for various things such as prom, SGA and much much more, not much can get better than that! Apopka highschool is a GREAT school and this is coming from a person who just graduated class of 2006!

My son attended Apopka High School his Senior year. Having come from a private high school with high academic standards, we weren't sure what to expect. We have been impressed! The academic challenge was great! The honors and AP classes were stimulating and I was more than satisfied with the interest of his teachers. They made themselves available to him and to us, his parents. My son was not involved in athletics, but the whole school does rally around its foot ball team! We truly enjoyed the community atmosphere at the football games!

I graduated from this school in 1984 and have no complaints. Now my girls attend Apopka and I'm dissapointed to hear them tell me of teachers who curse at the students, interupt class to answer personal phone calls from someone they met on a trip or to complain about their spouse. What happened to the professional training,to teaching the curriculum not personal beliefs. Many teachers seem to be overwhelmed because their attendance and grade records are not accurate. On the other hand the school offers great programs & activities. Many of the school staff are caring and involved. I wish the system could be improved. Unfortunatly teachers are not the same as years ago.
