My oldest son had attended K-5 and my youngest is in 1st. At LVE. After the change in office staff (Principals) the school went down-hill. Very min. communication with staff. Concerns are not addressed properly. Most teachers tell you that your child is doing great all year long and then just the last few months that are left is when they start telling you they may not pass and they are not progressing well. My youngest was entitled to tutoring at the beginning of the yr and it took just a month ago (Feb) for him to receive it and that was because I had to go to the school board. If I had not contacted the school board he may of not received his tutoring that was entitled to him. It is just very un-organized and NOT at all what it use to be. I am so glad this is my oldest sons last yr here at Lena Vista and my youngest will go elsewhere s next yr.
While the teachers are wonderful at Lena Vista and my children have enjoyed their years there, the recent change in administration has tarnished my experiences there as a parent. The miscommunication and lack of friendliness from the current principal and assistant principal has changed the once friendly, welcoming environment for the worse. My youngest child has one more year there and I look forward to moving on from Lena Vista.
I have had two children attend Lena Vista Elementary, both have told had Mrs Harsell as their 4th grade teacher. This lady is truly one of the best teacher's God put on this planet. She has instilled qualities in my children such honesty, integrity, equality and love for others. While not her responsibily she needs to know that many people in Auburndale truly apprecaite the efforts she puts forth in make her classroom a place where kids can come, learn and feel safe and loved.
I want to commend Lena Vista Elementary for the hiring of Mrs. Gayle Harsell a few years ago. Mrs. Harsell is one the warmest, sweetest, children oriented teacher that I've ever had pleasure to know. She always goes above and beyond to make every child feel loved, safe and special. The love she exhibits is felt by everyone she comes in contact with.
Lena Vista Elementary is head and shoulders above many other schools in Polk County. The dedication of Ms. Payne and Ms. Harrison is very evident in every aspect of the school. There are many great teachers that call LV home, Ms. Harsell, Ms. Stinson and Ms Durham to mention but a few always give of themselves above and beyond the call fo duty. All in all LV is a great school with wonderful leadership and staff and Auburndale should be very proud.
All three of my children attended Lena Vista. Two of them for their entire elementary years. My experience at Lena Vista has been very positive. All three of my sons have had absolutely wonderful teachers and I give them credit for helping my boys become honor students. Whenever there has been any kind of problem, I always felt comfortable and welcome to bring the issue to the school and have a speedy and justified resolution. There are many fine teachers at Lena Vista; Mrs. Durham, Mrs. Baugh, Mrs. Hartshorn, Mrs. Pugh, Mr. Sebastian, Mrs. Youngblood, too numerous to do justice in this small space. Lena Vista comes highly recommended by the Mother of Sean, Dustin and Victor. Thanks, for allowing me a chance to praise this school.
