Currently I have 2 sons at Avon Park High, grades 11 and 9. Although their personalities are as different as night and day both have easily found a place to fit in at APH. The school offers a wide range of sport teams, extra curricular activities, and advanced academic classes. The staff is friendly and administration is cooperative.

My daughter is now a junior at APHS & she is doing very well. She finished her online class through FLVS & is taking 2 A.P. classes this year. I have just joined the SAC to become more involved in her education & in this community. If you want things to change then you must choose to do something about it-not just complain. APHS (in my opinion) is an excellent high school. My daughter is planning on doing her first 2 years of college at SFCC & then possibly moving on to UCF. I have no doubt in my mind that she will succeed. I credit her experience in the Highlands County school system as the main part of the reason. They help build a foundation for success.

Serious problems abound at this school. They are struggling with a high percentage of ESL students who administration refurses to separate into special classes to help them learn english. So, what my kids found was that many classes lost half of their daily class time since the teacher would give half a class' lecture in english, then repeat it in SPANISH for the non-english speakers in the class! When we complained about this, they found nothing wrong with the way the class was being conducted! Effectively, our kids received half a class! They didn't care that they wouldn't finish the material for the term...they'd just 'get as far as they could'. Hispanic teachers often had a clear bias to the hispanic kids. The only thing that saved my two boys was the availablility of a dual enrollment program with the local Community College. That saved their academic career. Bad Administration!!!

I love this school. It's the best school I've gone to. I used to not like it untill I switched to Bartow High School. Now I've realized that I love Avon Park High School. I should be returning to that school on Tuesday.

I have to admit that I have NEVER been so disapointed with any school system as I am with Avon park high, I have 2 kids that go there, 1 is special ed, and the other will be graduating this may. As far as the special ed, all they do is ware house the kids untill they are 18, there is NO life skill training! My 18 yr old is reading and writing more in a 9th grade level and no one seems to care, I have personaly been to the school and talked to anyone who would listen. I even found that some teachers are prejudice, my children are white, and I have seen first hand how they are treated, the mexicans and african-american kids are treated like they might break, and dont even get me started about the lack of rules about pregnancy, they wear it like a badge.

Avon Park High is a very well rounded school. The kids there are good and work hard. The teachers are also very diligent in their teaching the students. I am proud to be apart of Avon Park High School.
