This is in response to the parent who wrote a review on May 9, 2013. The parent said, "the neighbors think they own the street." I respectfully disagree with this statement. I attended Hammock Pointe Elementary School when it first opened 20 years ago. My family lived in the neighborhood across the street (our town house faced the school). Instead of properly waiting in the pickup line, parents would illegally park in our development - on the grass, the curb, and in our assigned parking spots. They did not pay attention to the students walking home from school. I don't know if this is the neighborhood you are referring to. If so, the neighbors do "own the street" inside the development. Are there other neighborhoods that were built since that time? I am just writing about my family's personal experience.
The teachers are wonderful. The picking up line it's terrible! You cannot do u turns and the neighbors think they own the street. When a student need ESE , it's never tested unless parents request it, or scream on school board. They are raising their school level and kids are not following. School it's overcrowded . No many clubs for kids, and the ones they have are not offered to all.
i was a student at hammock ponit since 2nd grade and i just graduated 5th grade and im so happy i came to this school all the teachers are wonderful and the staff is polite and very nice. I love this school and i recommend this school to everyone. the best teacher in 5th is Mr.Burrage... i miss him so much.
A very supportive staff has helped both my sons, one of which who might be autistic. Teachers are good and both my sons are doing great
My child goes to this school and she has been bringing home so much information and learning material it has been great. They really inform parents.
I have to agree with the last two reviews. The schools lack of communication with the parents is the worst. The school changes the way they are doing things in the last 2-3 months of school that they have left. What took them so long to make these changes? When you tell the school staff that you weren't notified of any changes or new things going on they say that notices were sent home or you get the notices way too late. I have received notices the day something is due. This is something that they need to talk to the teachers about. My son got switched within the first 3 weeks of school and now he has a teacher that is horrible and nasty. You can't talk to the office staff because they are just as nasty. I hope next year is better!
Hammock Pointe does not communicate with parents like it use to. I agree with the last posting in that you only find out about a problem when it is too late. They trust the children to bring home all relevant information. They have high expectations which is great when the child can meet those expectations but some children that haven't been properly evaluated for various reasons might (as the expression goes) get left behind. My daughter does really well but when she makes a mistake or forgets something the consequences are too great. They should be working with the children to build them up, not shoot them down when they don't quite meet all expectations.
My daughter has been at HPES for 3 yrs now,, We loved her K teacher, she was the greatest, always there! When it came to 1st and 2nd grade, well, we started t see and feel a change going on. She was struggling with reading, and it wasnt until mid term report cards came out, is when we became aware of the problem..Wouldndnt u think u would get aletter or something before if there is a problem gets worse???? Well it happened again in 2nd grade, the same thing, but this time, when we found out again, we sprang into action, giving the school a piece of our minds, then sent her strat into tutoring, and the school has put her into a reading program, and she is improving...Let hope it doesnt happen again next yr!!!
Hammock Pointe Elementary is an awesome school. My son attends kindergarten there he is thriled to be in school. Teachers keep the students motivated to learn and to behave properly.
we just recently said goodbye to Hammock Point as we have moved to central florida. My son so enjoyed his 1st two and a half years of elementary school and I enjoyed volunteering! This school appreciates parental envolvement at any level. They are very organized and have many fun activities that involve families to participate. It will be hard to find a school to compare to this one. Hammock Point you will be missed.
My son and daughter both attended hammock pointe and i was beyond impressed, with the teachers and staff. I have never encountered a better elementary school than hammock pointe.
Hammock Pointe Elementary School presents a wonderful learning environment for students. Parents are encouraged to participate in the many activities that occur during the day, at night and on weekends. Hammock Pointe is a School of Promise. This commitment on behalf of administraiton, faculty and students creates the inter-generational program at Regents Park. The positive atmosphere at the school makes it a great place to attend school, go to work, and volunteer. You can't beat Hammock Pointe.
My daughter has been at HPES from k-5 and I have a daughter entering in 2007. The school is extremely safe. Teachers are awesome. It's a shame some parents feel the need to switch to a school that provides gifted programs when this school exists. I had the opportunity & turned it down to stay at HPES. As my childs years go on, fewer parents get involved. In 5th grade the after school & during school activities are incredible. This truly is a non-bully school whereas you feel as ease knowing your child is in their hands. Sad to see Ms. Veiga leave the school.
A lovely community school with a great student body. Recently added new classrooms with the building of a whole new facility. Very nice.
I love the school, the teachers are wonderful, sadly I am seeing a decline in the number of parents volunteering this year. There should be more parental involvement since the paid aid position doesn't exist any more. You couldn't find a more involved principal anywhere!
My son has been in the school since kinder. The principlal and vice principal takes the time to know all the children at school. My son's third grade teacher took the time to help him after school with math. When I spoke with the counselor about problems at home, she helped me and my son. I feel the school is my extended family. My son feels safe at school and knows he can talk to anyone there. The P.E teachers and music teachers are wonderful. Last year the P.E. teacher was aware I was going through a divorce and knew my son was upset. The P.E. teacher gave my son a dolphin football jersey. However, the dynamics with the students are changing. I have notice there are more children this school year which consider english as a secodary lang. and there are more children in the classroom. It's still a great school.
