My daughters attended 7th and 8th grades and both loved Hillel Day School (wish I had started with this school earlier). They were warmly welcomed by their classmates, invited to parties and sleepovers. Both loved attending and cannot wait to continue with their classmates at WYHS. The academics at Hillel are on a very high level and all the true values of the Torah are taught and practiced. It is a healthy, loving, caring, Jewish environment. The teachers are great role models, kind and loving and so is the administration. I agree with the others here who say that the staff go above and beyond at Hillel. It is a big commitment for me financially, but worth every penny.

My children come home happy, they are thriving in the close knit environment of the school, and they have grown so much in manynways. The caring staff go above and beyond at hillel day school.

This school promoted itself as one that promotes Jewish values. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Students whose parents have money and make large donations are allowed to sit out and not daven, and other students are allowed to bully students, punching students, pulling hair, etc. Parents aren't informed of these incidents, we have to learn it from our children. There are some very dedicated teachers, but in this economy they are afraid to say anything because they need their job. My child actually made less progress academically in the year she was at Hillel than she did in the gifted program in the public school. I would not recommend this school. Choose another Jewish school if you want one that actually practices the values of the Torah. I found out the hard way.

Academic programs are fine, and extracurricular activities are offered. Overall, my kids are happy, and I am satisfied with their academic and social environments. The main challenge is the high tuition, and the cost of the extra curricular activities.

The school is amazing. I could not be happier. Our three children have grown both in knowledge of secular and Judaic subjects, and in character. The school insists on good moral behavior, not allowing for clicks to be formed. Parent involvement is great. The new sports fields are amazing, and the new music program is also great. Teachers and administration are always available for parents and children alike. I could not have asked for a better school.

The quality of the academic programs is inconsistent. Some are very good, others just the opposite. While the Hebrew in Hebrew language training is good, and the middle school Judaics are good as well, the secular subjects are clearly behind other private schools. Discipline is also inconsistent and not always constructive. In addition, there is not enough of an emphasis on character training by assuming it will be done at home by parents. Class size, too, can vary. The music, arts, and sports programs either do not exist or not well developed. Parents are encouraged to be involved and many parents are involved with the workings of the school.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
