Forest Park is a great school. The IB program they offer is excellent. My son has grown leaps and bounds at this school. He has been attending since the middle of his kindergarten year. He will be going into second grade. The teachers and office staff are amazing.
My son is getting ready to graduate kindergarten from Forest Park and he LOVES school! In addition to the fact that it is an IB school (Chris Overhoff - Magnet Coordinator is amazing), it is also small enough that the staff know all the kids and I can't say enough about the aftercare program and its Director Ms Kim -- don't let the fact that this school is still finding its way deter you from finding out how amazing it is!
Forest Park Elementary is the place to be. The IB program has brought more diversity and kids are the heart of it! Reader and Writers Workshop are in full swing. The students are engaged and excited about learning here. Technology is in full swing and these students are LEARNING! Student learning is the focus and the the teachers are fantastic.
I'm not sure i would recommend this school to anyone. The staff is very unorganized there is no communication when it comes to afterschool clubs or activties. They send a calendar home with club dates that they don't follow by and they cancel them without giving parents any notice.
Forest Park is quickly transforming from a struggling neighborhood school, to a sought-after choice program. The building is a brand new and carefully planned facility, equipped with incredible technology and large open classrooms. The teachers have all been trained by the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, and are dedicated to helping students succeed and be thoughtful citizens of the world. The IB curriculum is an excellent opportunity for young children. Parent involvement is increasing rapidly due to the choice program. New parents are active and enthusiastic about making Forest Park a great school. Don't be scared by a letter grade. As younger choice students move up, that letter grade will too. Don't miss out on the IB opportunity. Morikami isn't your only choice!
The previous reviews on this school are no longer valid as they are over 3 years old and this year, the school is brand new. I don't mean just the building either, though that is the case. This year it is an IB program and is on it's way to becoming the next Morikami. The teachers are fantastic, the faciliy is beautiful and well used. The IB program is great. This school is now a Choice Program and hopefully in the next couple of years will have a chance to prove itself. I only wish that the parent participation were better. Hopefully with the Choice Program growing, that will improve as well. I look forward to the next few years to see how this school emerges as 'the school to be at.'
It is not known what types of activities are offered before the third grade. K-2, nothing. The only thing good about this school is the after care program. Ms. Kim is fabulous. She really loves the children and cares about what interests them and what doesn't. Basically any school in Florida only cares about teaching and preparing students for the FCAT. Teachers here are Ok. The principal and VP are great people.
The teachers at Forest Park are working very hard to make sure their students pass the FCAT! This is a great school.
The sad thing about this school is that there is not alot of parent envolvement. The staff is very caring but they can only do so much. They have the best aftercare program around. It is really a shame that they loose great students to other schools.
