Profile Completeness

ADVANCED

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I have been a parent of Hagen for the past 10 years all of my children have attended Hagen and have only wonderful things to say about the Admin, however I do have to hand pick my teachers each yr and not because the teachers are bad teachers because they are not..... BUT because there is a hand full of teachers who focus all their energy in trying to destroy the ADMIN instead of focusing on educating the children.... They stand in the halls all day long and plot and call CTA like every other day... My thought is that if that hand full is not happy they should find another school that is better suited for them.. I do have to say that the teachers that my children have had have been nothing but wonderful and have only always put the education of the children first.... HAGEN ROCKS!!!!!

The principal told the faculty in a meeting on August 12, 2014 to go onto this site and submit reviews to increase the rating. He showed the entire faculty a fake 5-star review he submitted as a parent (his children never attended there). Based on the lack of positive reviews, it seems like none of the teachers followed that direction, which should tell you something about their moral fiber vs. that of their boss. I am giving HRES 5 stars because of the excellent, hardworking teachers I see day in and day out try hard to give your kids the best, in spite of the unethical behavior at the top.

I love HAGEN ROAD ELEMENTARY! My son is in fourth grade and has been attending this school since kindergarten, and has made so many friends along the way. The teachers and staff are very caring and informative!

Pleased to announce that once again Hagen Road Elementary has been rated as an A-School by the Florida Department of Education. Hagen Road, along with neighboring Sunset Palms Elementary ( also a public school), are the only Boynton Beach Schools that received this high rating and named Golden and Five Star Schools. The school has plenty to offer all children in prekindergarten through grade five (including a renowned Spanish Dual Language Program). Parents and community members marvel at the annual May Day Performance that has been part of the school for over 50 years and the other parent activities and programs available. We are also looking forward to increased parent participation in the total school program and welcome the new PTA at the school.

This school is HORRIBLE. My son attended this school for 1st and second grade. He was diagnosed ADHD but was undergoing additional testing for Autism. While going in for Parent night, I watched his teacher LITERALLY mock and mimic has body language in front of everyone there. He was told not to eat the M&Ms they used during bingo. He ate them. When I picked him up from school, he was so distraught that I couldn't make out what was wrong. I went to the office, they did NOTHING for me. Told me I couldn't see the Asst Principal (Dr Hughes wasn't even there). I basically barged in to find out that because he ate the m&ms he missed out of the holiday festivities. He spent 3 hours in the office and I never received a call! Missed seeing Santa and getting a special treat. It's been 3 years and he still talks about it. It is THAT memory that will never go away. BTW, he has been diagnosed with Autism. If you have a child with special needs DO NOT SEND THEM TO THIS SCHOOL. (I could write a book with everything that happened to him in the 2 years that he was there.) Also, I should be able to have access to my son.No parent involvement is just hurting the kids AND the school.

Not impressed with Hagen Road. Although the teachers have been wonderful, the principal doesn't support parent involvement and the PTO only has 2 Board Members. While other schools have numerous committees on the PTO or PTA Hagen Road has none. This school doesn't even have an honor roll and my kids haven't been on a field trip in years. Very disappointed to see such a beautiful school become so unfriendly.

Worse as years go by. There is not mcuh to say other than the school has been going downhill for years now. The Principal is not engaged. The new Assistant Principal is rude and always in a bad mood and the Dual Language program... well.. not working. There is a blatant lack of involvement and support from the Principal in all aspects from lack of inspection of school surroundings to something as simple as wishing their Safety Patrol and great trip to Washington D.C. The field is infested by fire ants that no one seems to care about. The afterschool program was the best for years and now is heading in the same direction as the rest of the school. No Field Day. Parents are not welcomed. Volunteers are not welcomed and in order to become one you have to jump through hoops. Overall, if you can avid putting your child through this and more please do so.

Best thing I did was pull my child out of this school. I could care less how great their PTO is.....I want an organized school with an outstanding education. This school had neither.

When my first daughter started at Hagen Road she had some trouble detaching from me and it extended through most of first grade. The principal and assistant principal along with her teachers made the transition much easier. It seemed like it would never get better and I just felt so bad for her, but she just finished 2nd grade and she had the best school year yet, and her little sister just finished Kindergarten and had a wonderful year. I do feel that as a parent, you have to show and voice your concerns and make your feelings known, but the faculity & staff will do what they can to accommodate your child. The nurse is wonderul and we have the best PTO around.

Thanks to Hagen I left the State of Florida and moved back to the NYC Metropolitan area. This school has a terrible office staff and a lousy educational approach. They almost succeeded in making my son hate going to school. Fortunately, I was able to get him out of Hagen before the damage was permanent. Trust your intuition and send your kids elsewhere.

You are wrong, fake parent aka office staff! Yes, office staff is the worse. The dual language program has been mismanaged for years due to lack of support from principal (I had my middle child in dual & the oldest & youngest in english only). The principal doesn't care about the program and it is NOT successful! This is why parents take their kids out every year and the program reduces from 2 classes per grade to 1 class per grade by 3rd grade. Take a look at the numbers every year!!! So small that next year you will have the same teachers teaching both 4th & 5th grade dual! Some teachers are great but they alone cannot do it. Out of boundary parents come to this school for the dual language and leave or stay miserable in the school. This is my home school and I am NOT happy with this school. I used to volunteer with my oldest child, but since this principal arrived, that is not allowed! Having experienced both dual and english only, I have come to realize that it is a leadership issue. This school needs an overhaul! This principal doesn't motivate the teachers but only brings them down! Math problem: Hagen - office staff/principal = great school/educated kids/happy parents

Hopefully , this unhappy parent will find their home school more to their liking, but I doubt it. Some people are never happy, but I'm glad to see they won't be returning. I have had nothing but positive experiences with the school, principal and front office staff and look forward to another good year in the fall.

The teachers really try and meet the needs of each and every students!!!!! The PTO really ROCKS and really made it a fun filled year for students, parents and staff!!!!

My daughter just had her moving up ceremony from Kind. to 1st grade. She is in the dual language program and is loving it! Her teachers are the best! I can't say enough about them. They made the entry into a 'real' school a great experience. The staff have always been helpful and the PTO is outstanding. The afterschool program is the best around. Im so happy we were able to get our daughter into this school and are looking forward to the next year!

NEGLIGENCE! My son just turned 6 and is in kindergarten. This morning I walked him to school and returned home. At 10:30am my door bell was ringing like crazy! My fiance opened the door and my son was standing there! My son walked out of school and walked home and no one noticed him leave the school campus. Thank GOD I live in the neighborhood directly behind the school, and also that someone that also lives in the neighborhood saw him and followed him home. For some reason they would only allow us to talk to the assistant principle and she apologized, but does not know how he got out without anyone seeing him. I also spoke with a few other office personnels and no one had much concern about the situation.I am furious and verify disappointed in the school!

After 2 years at this school, thank God- my child will not be returning. We moved just to get out of this school zone. The ESE staff is wonderful, the teachers ok, the admin. not so wonderful. I hate to say anything negative but unless your child just blends into school and has no problems and you like a hands OFF approach to their education, than this will not be the best spot for your child. The admin does their best to avoid any problems and tries to ignore them and see if they will just go away.

The principal, Dr. Hughs, deserves a special mentioning here. I have NEVER seen a principal, who is so dedicated to his job and who is involved in every aspect of the education process. He stands outside the school every morning and personally greets all the kids as they come in. He periodically invites all the kids to his office and personally checks their reading skills. I , as a parent, have found him to be very approachable and helpful. The only thing I had problems with is communication btwn the teachers and the parents. It is done via e-mail or by phone, the parents are not allowed to just visit the classroom without an appointment for the safety reasons. However, overall I am very pleased with the school.

My son moved in mid year and we have been very unhappy from the first day. The office staff was complaining and miserable on the first day and are always negative when I visit the office. It is obvious that the leadership in the school is awful. My son will not be returning to the school next year.

The school moved to a new building at the beginning of school year 2008-2009(still under construction). The office personnel is extremely helpful and corteous and the teachers in the dual language program are very good. The teachers work wonders with the limited funding and support they get from the school principal. The after care program is excellent. The main complain from the parents is the lack of involvement from the school principal and his inaction on pending items. Although you will always get a 'corporate' response from him about any issues that arise.

My son attended 4th grade this year and did exceptionally well. His teacher, Melissa Skarecki is a wonderful teacher. I had the opportunity to visit their class and it was so obvious how much the children loved her! I also feel that the school is very good about recognizing a childs academic accomplishments.

This is our first year at hagen, my daughter came in to the 3rd grade dual language program. She came from a private school and we were concerned about the transition. She is doing fantastic thanks to her teachers at hagen. I find the school overall to be very warm and welcoming from the office staff all the way to the cafeteria personel. I have never felt like this school is too big, instead you feel like it is a small family school. Safety is a must and i am again impressed from a school this size. The music program in may is fantastic! the letters coming home are very informative. The principal is out waiting in the car line both before and after classes. He is very visable! i as a parent am very happy with hagen and most important my daughter loves her school. I highly recommend hagen.

My son is in 3rd Grade and has attended Hagen since First Grade. Mrs, Howard, his 3rd grade teacher is a Godsend. She is caring, compassionate and truly identifies a childs strengths and weaknesses and works with them. My son went from being an A/B/C student last year to straight A's this year. There should be more teachers like Mrs. Howard. At first I thought that the open classrom atmosphere would have a negative impact on my son, due to possible distractions, but he has flourished! The aftercare program has also improved since last year with the hiring of their new SAC Director!

My son is now in 2nd grade and has been attending Hagen Road since kindergarten. I was very happy with his progress thus far, but I must say this year has been a challenge. His classroom is very small, cramped and messy, and the teacher to student ratio has been 1 teacher with 25 students. My son's performance has suffered as he went from an A/B student to a B/C student. I am also unhappy with the lack of communication I am receiving from his teacher as compared to prior years. I have to stay on top of things continuously or I would not be informed of any problems that may be arising. My son is also not getting a recess, and when I spoke to Dr. Hughes he said it was the teachers discretion. Overall my confidence in the school has decreased considerably.

We were not happy with Hagen under Mrs. Barron, but since Dr. Hughes has taken over, things are seemingly changing for the better. This year we are very happy with the dual language program, but we'd like to see them implement a gifted program as many students would benefit from it.

My daughter is a new student to Hagen in Kindergarden. Overall the adjustment seems to be going fairly well. My only concern is that I am used to having more connection with the teacher. I wrote a note to her teacher asking for weekly reports, and the responce was that she did not feel that it was necessary. I am tring to be a involved parent. Other than that, all seems well. SACC program after school, also seems to be well run.

Hagen Road was set up to use a Pod system. This means that all three third grade classes, for example, are in one huge room w/out dividers. This is less than ideal for most students, and there are a lot of distractions. The teachers seem to handle this pretty well though, and most of them say they like it better this way. Academically, they have good teachers and a good, solid program. Their standardized test performance is high. This school has a lot of volunteers from the community, especially seniors. They add a nice dimension to the school that is not commonly found in public schools. The physical building is very unattractive from the outside, but it is well mantained and has a warm feeling on the inside.

I thought Hagen Road Elementary was a pretty good school as far as academics my daughter learned alot there and at any sign of a problem I was contacted by the teacher so we could focus on it at home. The only problems that I did have with this school were that the only time I ever laid eyes on the principal was at the end of year program. I even went in to talk to her once and couldn't get past her assistant. I also got the impression that they didn't want to deal with the parents unless they wanted something from them.
