Do not send your child here PLEASE!! Unsafe school, principal not protecting the children. My child was put in harms way several times on school grounds and principal blames my child and refused to work with our family. Teachers are bad. After several IEP meetings our teacher lied saying my child was on grade level but after meetings we got notices saying she failed standard tests. Police got involved in other events, it's gone down hill and there's plenty of other schools in the area for your child to get a good education. This school knows nothing about IB, and should not have that credential!
They are bound to,the school district and are told what to do, what to say and have no influence on the students. I would email my child's teacher and she would not respond back, when the principal and I were not getting along , he told the teacher while my child was on campus to not talk to me about anything related to my child. This principal is HORRIBLE and created a bad experience for my child. My child's teacher lied in an IEP meeting. About academics.
The reason I feel this way is because the principal refused to keep my child safe after many emails he said he would guarantee it, in one of my IEP meetings he refused to allow me to place parental input in the conference notes for my child, which is a violation of FERBA. My child was pulled out of classrooms and put in others when there was no reason for it and my child was not happy.
I went here from 1st through 5th grade, and it was a great school. They handled bullying (When it happened) really well, and I learned a lot. I am going into Algebra this year, and it is in part because of Wakeland.
Change in leadership and county cut backs have caused us to rethink our choice of Wakeland. We believe in the IB methodologies, but staff turnover and reduced funding are taking their toll. Factor in that Johnson Middle's IB program is struggling and the incentives to choice to Wakeland are not what they were two years ago.
As I look back at my sons first year of school, VPk, I am overwhelmed with the knowledge he has learned. My 4 year old is making sure he is a Risk Taker when trying things for the first time, being principled and caring, and learning how things relate to his own body by the choices he makes and how that personally effects him. The principle is awesome! His teacher was AMAZING. Every Friday you receive a weekly review of what the children has learned. Each child also has a daily agenda to communicate from teacher to parent. I am so thrilled and honor to have my child attending Wakeland !
Wakeland Elementary is a wonderful school. Great staff, teachers and administration that truely care about each child. I highly reccomend it to anyone looking for an amazing education for their children.
I cannot say enough about this school. The principal and entire staff are 110% committed to the kids. My children love being there and they are growing and becoming internationally minded young people, while being constantly challenged in academics.
